To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before: A Movie Review (Moview)

“It’s not like in the movies. It’s better, because it’s real.” ― Jenny Han, To all the boys I’ve loved before.

Last August 17, 2018, Netflix has released the movie version of the book written by Jenny Han entitled To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and every one is taking their last breath, like I would know because I have a lot of opinion about it.

To all the bookworms who’ve read the three book series of TATBILB, this movie is probably your sweet escape to reality after getting lost with the sweet words written in those masterpieces. I mean, right now, the movie is the closest thing you have with the books.

And beware to all the non readers and those who haven’t seen the movie, this is not for you…please read at your own risk…

The whole story revolves around a girl named Lara Jean, who writes letters to her crushes but never send them until one day, out of the blue, the letters were sent to each of the boys she wrote the letters to and so that started the whole fake relationship with one of the recipients, Peter Kavinsky, to mask the feelings she had for her sister’s boyfriend, Josh Sanderson, which later on became not-so-fake anymore and everything got complicated.

Let’s start the review with the ACTORS.

First, Lara Jean Covey, played by the ever charming, Lana Condor; Well, I got to say, everything that I expected the book to be in real life, she definitely nailed it. Like, i wouldn’t know who else will play the part of Lara Jean better than Lana did.

The character was also portrayed beautifully, although I kind of got a little awkward at first because when I saw the Lara Jean, I was like “Uh, I didn’t know Lara’s character could be a li’l boring than I imagined but everything changed after she kissed “Peter Kavinsky”! Like, “Damn, girl, I know you got it!”

Second, Peter Kavinsky, played by the ever hottie, Noah Centineo. Well, to those who doesn’t know him, he also played as Johnny Sanders Jr. in the movie SPF-18, last 2017 and he will be playing a big part in the upcoming film, Sierra Burgess is a loser.

We have to take a moment to appreciate, Noah. Damn, boy, you a hottie and you just made every girl in the world to take a step back and re-calibrate their standards when it comes to boys.

Well, in the book, I was team Peter and so all those sweet things that were made in the movie, basically, I wanted them all. Especially that lockscreen that Lara Jean had, which was later on revealed that was not even scripted (It was them, IRL. Yaas, Queen! They slept like that IRL.)

Third, Josh Sanderson, played by Israel Broussard. At first, I didn’t think Josh would definitely look like him but while watching the movie, I kind of accepted it.  I couldn’t say anything bad because he was an exact reflection of his character in the book.

But hey, we should focus on the two lovies, Noah and Lana; they are so adorable that I’ve been seeing some articles claiming that they are dating IRL and I think their IG accounts say so; with all the sweet captions and comments to each other, why not?

Going down to the review, there are some scenes in the book that were actually not in the movie, however, it didn’t made me feel bad like I did when I watch the Divergent series which I really, really love in the book but not in the movie.

The movie was actually catered for wide range of audience, because the book was made for mostly, young adult female readers but the movie, even boys and girls who are in college and who finished studying will get the total impact of the kilig. (C’mon guys, it’s 2018, that’s in the dictionary now.)

The only thing I noticed is that I felt like the movie compressed the two books in one. (Those who read them will know what I’m trying to say.) However, it wasn’t awkward at all, like it was actually made brief for a reason which was because of the duration of the movie compared to the pages of the book. I cannot ask for more, aside for more scenes and a possibility of a sequel, yeah, I guess, I would say, everything was brilliant and I can’t get enough of it.

The movie is timely, and I love the outfits and all. You may seem a little excited to watch it because of Noah and Lana, but guess what, take a careful look, coz Jenny Han, herself did a cameo in the movie!!!! and that’s what I was so thrilled about; it’s like she’s watching her whole life being made into a fairytale. I bet all writers like me are jealous! That feeling when you created characters and see them in real life like they were just your friends! Wow, just wow.

The ending was predictable, because I’ve read it already but, got to say, still love those love letters from Peter Kavinsky.

All in all, I give this movie a 95% wonderroanne rating!

To those who haven’t watched it yet, C’mon, you have a time tonight; Open your Netflix and chill.
