JOKER: Look who’s smiling now? (A Moview)

The worst part of having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don’t.”

Joker, joker, joker. We all know him as the main antagonist in every Batman films and comic sequels but do we really know who Joker is?

This October, Warner Bros. Pictures released its much awaited film for the year, The Joker, which tackles about the life of Arthur Fleck, played by Joaquin Phoenix, or most of the Batman fans knew as THE JOKER.

The film started when he was still working as a clown, living with his mother and how Arthur was inflicted by the ugly society surrounding him.

As a commoner in Gotham City, who was sent out to live a normal life after being locked up in the mental hospital, Arthur has lived his life according to what the society has made him to be. With the help of his psychiatrist, Arthur was able to survive being sane in the midst of the insanity he is experiencing every day. He works as a clown and was able to feed his mother who’s been living with him his entire life.

One day, after being fired from his job for bringing a gun, he decided to change his persona and be the guy everyone thinks he is. He killed three rich kids who attacked him only to bring chaos to all the people in the city. Everyone thought that Arthur as a clown who murders the rich is creating a mark and making a big move.

When his mother got sick, he discovered that he might be the son of Thomas Wayne, who is a prominent person at that time in Gotham City. Out of his curiosity, he follow Thomas only to find out that his mother made all the story up because he was in love with Thomas Wayne. That’s the time Arthur put his destiny into his own hands. And later in the movie, The Joker was introduced.

The Review

I’m still in awe. The movie was so great that I was left speechless. The movie was morbidly good that I think it was too strong and it was not for everyone to watch . The movie showed how Arthur became the Joker and what triggered him to see only evil in the world.

What I like about the adaptation is they showed the good side of Arthur and how he felt about the society clearer than the previous movies. Now, they also showed in the movie the Joker’s connection with Bruce Wayne an how they actually met. They also showed how Bruce lost his parents in a robbery.

DC Movies has began to connect their movies together to create a sensible story line. I hope the next in the story is the Batman which I’ve been hearing rumors about.

This whole review is focused on Joaquin Phoenix’s acting as Joker which was actually praised by many. We all know that Joker is a character that knows nothing but pure evil and Joaquin was so good at playing the part that we believed that he is partly sane and partly crazy. The way he moves and the way he delivers the lines it reflects the way Joker was when you are reading the comics or if you have watched the previews movies.

I bet Heath Ledger will be proud of Joaquin for sure because they are friends in real-life and obviously Joaquin has given justice to the character as much as Heath did.

For all we know, Joaquin has played several roles including his role in HER and Gladiator which gave him his name in the industry. and the remarkable change he made for the Joker is also giving him praises, he lost his weight to the point that his ribs show which definitely made him a jackpot for Joker.

I liked how the movie focus on Arthur’s love life as well which turned out to be an illusion only. It just showed that Joker has another side of good that people should know about.

Mental health Awareness…

The movie was a little disturbing if you look at it in the medical point of view. It can trigger those who are currently experiencing depression as the movie is tackling some of the signs of depression as well.

The movie showed the mental-ill point of view. It showed how the people who are experiencing depression sees the world and the society around them. Although, some critics might not agree with me but the movie has opened the whole society to these kinds of mental illness.

The movie was just in time for the mental health awareness happening around the world. I’d say, this is one of the best movie that shows the difference of the real world and the world for those who doesn’t feel like staying intact with the society.

The Verdict

I was hoping I can express my gratitude with this movie. I mean, it hit me and I liked it a lot; the story line, the whole content, it was amazingly rearranged. The way Joaquin portrayed The Joker was remarkable. I’m hoping for a good sequel too.

All in all, I will give this movie a 95% wonderroanne rating.
