1917: A Mission Within a Mission (A Moview)

“They’re walking into a trap. Your orders are to deliver a message calling off tomorrow mornings attack, if you fail, it will be a massacre.” – General Erinmore

In the midst of a war, who would have known that there’s a possibility of fulfilling something small only to discover it’s something really big? This 2020, amongst the true stories adapted into a award winning movie, comes another story that will captured everyone’s heart.

Directed by Sam Mendes, 1917 is another memoir from the British soldiers during the World War I. The story was told by the director’s grandfather, Alfred Mendes and with his story, a great movie was made.

The Synopsis

The story focuses on the British soldiers and their war against the German soldiers during WWI. After the German troops have changed their tactics, Lance Corporal Blake played by Dean-Charles Chapman and Lance Corporal Schofield payed by George MacKay were tasked to inform the other soldiers, including Blake’s brother, Lieutenant Joseph Blake played by Richard Madden, that their enemies are trying trick them to falling into their traps.

With 1,600 soldiers’ lives at stake, the two (Blake and Schofield) must cross over the enemies’ territory to send the message to Colonel MacKenzie played by Benedict Cumberbatch. With their time hanging by a thread, the two must reached MacKenzie in time to save the lives of their comrades and it’s up to them how they will be able to protect themselves while saving the lives of many.

The Verdict

I won’t reveal any spoilers because I know the the movie just released and I think the film deserves to be kept a mystery until it is watched by many. I’ve seen different war movies and I think 1917 is one of the mot straight-forward movies I’ve seen. I like how they attack the story by focusing on the mission and just that, no additional struggles. It’s like the movie is telling the story straight from Sam’s grandfather’s own words.

George MacKay played his part really well. He reminds me of Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt from Grey’s Anatomy) They have some facial similarities and a good share of acting for Dean- Charles whom I think was also part of the movie Before I Go To Sleep.

All in all, the movie has showed us another face of WWI and another story of heroism and sacrifice. Today, with all what’s happening around the world, I think the movie is just giving justice on showing what wars can do to places, family and individuals.

Of course, I will give this a 90% wonderroanne rating.

I hope you enjoy watching this movie!
