Enola Holmes: A Moview

Who loves mysteries? I started watching mystery films ever since I got a hold of Nancy Drew, Veronica Mars and yes, Sherlock Holmes. I’d say I’ve read the books too. Which brings us here in the latest movie adaptation of the first book from the Enola Holmes Series by Nancy Springer which entitled the same, Enola Holmes. This is a story about Enola Holmes, the youngest sister of Sherlock who on her 14th birthday discovered that her

mother has been missing. Since the Holmes family are just so smart, her mother knows that Enola will basically figure out all the clues she prepared for Enola to figure out where she is.

The Cast…yes, let’s talk about the cast.

Enola Holmes is played by Millie Bobby Brown, the smart young lass who is about to explore the real world with all the knowledge her mother taught her while growing up. Well, Millie is just so beautiful and I can’t help but think that I can see the similarities between her and Nathalie Portman like she’s the younger version of Nathalie.

This film has a jampacked cast which includes;

Sam Cafflin, playing as Mycroft Holmes, who is an elder brother of Elona and the semi-villain in the film. At first I didn’t recognize Sam-for those who don’t know who he is, Sam is the male lead in the movie Me Before You-because of the mustache and the vintage look. Mycroft was however in the film made the villain and he looked funny as if he’s the dumbest of all the Holmes which is very different from the book. I mean, he’s damn smart.

With all due respect to Robert Downey Jr. & Benedict Cumberbatch who has played Sherlock Holmes, in this film, Henry Cavill just did justice for the role and I can’t ask for another Sherlock aside from the three…they’re enough.

Let’s talk about Helena Bonham Carter, playing as Eudoria Homes, the mother of all the characters…she played so many famous roles like The Red Queen in The Alice in Wonderland, Bellatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter Series, Mrs. Bucket in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory & Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd. She’s the most versatile actress that I know. She’s played every challenging roles and I love her, really!

And Louis Partridge playing as Viscount Tewksbury. The whole book is actually about the missing Marquess and yes, in the movie while Enola was looking for her mother, she met the young Marquess who later on became Enola’s first case to solving mysteries.

The Review

I’m looking forward for the next instalment for this movie adaptation of the book series coz my favourite is the Bizarre Bouquets and I would love to see how they will make it come to life. The whole movie portrays, if not exactly, but almost the same as what is written in the book which was good. I love how thy still made the story young adult friendly just like the book.

Nevertheless, the movie exceeded my expectations and I would love to give this a 90% wonderroanne rating.

For those who haven’t watched it yet, it is available in Netflix; so you better get a membership and enjoy the mystery! Happy watching!
