Raya & The Last Dragon: A Moview

A new Disney heroine is being known and her name is Raya.

She’s one the Disney’s latest creation and her story is about a fantasy world of Kumandra where humans and dragons lived together without any chaos. But when Druun, a monster which threatened the land attacked, dragons saved the whole humanity and they never sought existence until 500 years later, the Druun monsters have returned and a lone warrior in the name of Raya decided to get into a journey of tracking the last dragon remaining and stop the monsters from ruining the worlds she lives in once again.

As per my observations while watching the movie; Raya is based on Southeast Asian descents mostly from Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia & Philippines. which explains the Salakot that she’s wearing, it’s a hat that has been worn through out those countries that I listed especially the people working in the farm or while under the heat of the sun.

Kumandrans consist of five tribes that were inspired by Southeast Asian countries, which you’ll notice also on their clothes and other detailed stuff. Not to mention the cute side-kick of Raya which was also named after a famous transport vehicle in Thailand, the Tuk-tuk.

The movie has given me this Moana, Mulan and Frozen vibe because they are showcasing the braveness of princesses and I’m sure Disney wants little girls and women to be inspired to.

I will definitely give this a 88% wonderroanne rating!

For those who haven’t watch it yet, it’s still available in the cinemas and if not, due to lockdowns and quarantines, you can watch it on Disney+

Happy watching!
