“Being brave doesn’t mean you’re not scared. It means you are scared, but you hang in there.”
– Arne Johnson, The Conjuring 3
So this is the third instalment of the Conjuring series but this is not the only movie that crossovers the whole Conjuring timeline; there’s also other movies that are connected with the conjuring, The Nun and Anabelle. I think if you have watched all of those movies, then you know their connections. So for those who haven’t watched it yet, let me give you a chronological timeline of the conjuring.

You can watch it two ways; 1st is this order which will make you understand the history and it’s easier to understand the latest movie;
- The Nun (1952 / 1971)
- Annabelle: Creation (1943 / 1952 / 1955 / 1967)
- Annabelle (1967)
- The Conjuring (1968 / 1971)
- Annabelle Comes Home (1968 / 1969 or 1971 / 1972)
- The Curse of La Llorona (1973)
- The Conjuring 2 (1976 / 1977)
- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (1980/81)
The second on is the time of their released which is also fair to watch if you don’t want to be in the zone where you cannot digest the events so, yeah, try this order;
- The Conjuring (2013)
- Annabelle (2014)
- The Conjuring 2 (2016)
- Annabelle Creation (2017)
- The Nun (2018)
- The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
- Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
So now let’s go with the latest Conjuring entry entitled, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Yes, I know I had the same reaction when I saw it…what is it about? is it gonna be scarier than the previous movies? I bet so… Well, let’s talk about it and I promise that I will try my best not to spoil.
But well, still a disclaimer, I might be able to drop some hints here and there.
The movie starts with a child being possessed and The Warren’s are there to help the family. It’s another case of demonic possession but this time, it is caused by someone who had a deal with the devil…with the unexpected turn of events, this person needs to collect three souls to be able to get the deal from the devil which I won’t elaborate thoroughly to avoid spoiling but I must let readers know that this year’s conjuring is based in a true events specifically the murder trial of Arne Johnson (1981) who was believed to be under the influenced or possession of an evil spirit when he stabbed his landlord, killing him and getting himself accused and trail to murder.
The Verdict
The moment I came to know about the story behind the movie, I got really excited. I was able to read articles about the same case and got to know more about it. The Warrens like the usually are just extraordinary, imagine all those spiritual and paranormal activities happening in real life is more than borderline. This year’s conjuring was a little different because Ed became the centre of the story too rather than Lorraine which normally happens. Although wat I find it a little disturbing is that instead of seeing it as a horror film, I can see it now as a complete investigative film or is it just me? But if most of films create some connection to true events, I guess it is more interesting to watch that’s why the whole Conjuring timeline never bores me at all. I love the investigative part of it.
All in all, I enjoyed the movie, I like the hidden surprises of it, I won’t spoil so you’ll see it for yourself. I will definitely give this 87% wonderroanne rating!
For those who are interested, you can watch it in chronological timeline order or released date order, refer on my shared list before you watch this latest one! For those who have watched it, I wanna hear your thoughts about the movie! Comment please!
