Songbird Movie: A ‘Pandemia’ Realization

So, it was only released last June 24 in the UAE, a movie called Songbird which tackles a fictionize result of a pandemic. The movie was however released in US last December 2020, which is a bummer because I am too late to make a review so I would just use this blog to compare the movie to the real world. Besides I think they made this movie as an eye opener to everyone and I felt like I needed to watch in the big screen rather than my laptop so it will be a lot more realistic.

The movie is about how Covid-23 had affected the world. There are quarantine facilities which they called the Quarantine Zone and everyone who gets sick or had symptoms of the said virus, they are being picked up from the comfort of their homes just to be sent in the so called Quarantine zone or everyone calls it, Quarantine Zone of Death. Coz if you’re there, you’ll just end up dying. Here’s where the story gets exciting. There are people who are called immune, which means they don’t get the virus even with close contact (which they don’t do unless the person in front of them is immune as well.) Then brings us to KJ Apa’s character, Nico who plays the role of a courier who is immune and sends all the packages of almost everyone. But of course, Nico has to rescue his

girlfriend, Sara played by Sofia Carson who definitely can pass as Lilly Collin’s twin sister. Sara is currently living with her tia, who got sick and got confirmed for the virus so Nico had to do something, help them get some yellow bracelet which serves as a symbol that a person is immune and Nico has discovered a way to get the yellow bracelet through the black market which he needs to convinced the couples Mr. & Mrs. Griffin played by Demi Moore and Bradley Whitford who happens to be one of Nico’s customers however they sent him to the wrong person and he was almost get killed, long story short, eventually after few attempts, he was able to get the bracelet and they were able to accomplish their plans together with their friends.

This movie is like a reflection of what can happen in the near future if we won’t defeat the pandemic. I was amazed how it is relatable and the fact that it was almost mirrored from what we are experiencing right now because it’s actually scary how many people are dying because of Covid-19 and with that said, we just don’t know until when it will stay and how long can we still go on trying to fight the disease.

As a matter of fact, while watching the movie, I was thinking what if this is in real life? So the oppress will be the one who will suffer and the ones who have the means are the ones who will survive the longest. This is already happening to us, every country has its own problem when it comes to pandemic. Businesses are closing, companies are laying off employees and airports are closing making so many people getting stranded not being able to see their families. So if this pandemic won’t finish, where will we be? And what we will become?

The movie is definitely an eyeopener because it portrayed what we call the hierarchy in the society and this is actually what the real world is all about; we can just get everything without money and not everyone can be immune, healed or saved. I just hope the pandemic ends soon because it ruined so many lives, families and dreams. The world stopped literally just to save itself. It’s like nature asking us to rest and meditate; learning what is really important in the world.

I definitely give this a high 90% wonderroanne rating not because the cinematography was okay but I like the lesson it brought and the message this movie wanted us to hear.
