Blackpink: The Movie (A Moview)

For five years, four young girls have been entertaining the whole world and bringing joy to every BLINK’s heart. I’m talking about the YG Entertainment talents Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie and Rosé. They are the famous Korean girl group called Blackpink and if you haven’t heard of them then you have not yet lived. They’re like the 2NE1. Yes, you heard me right. But of course, as a 2NE1 avid fan, they’re completely different in different aspects but both are great.

Anyway, let’s talk about the newest released movie of Blackpink in celebration of their 5th year anniversary and this year just like the one they livestreamed (The Show) all over the world, this movie is summing up all the experiences and tours that the girl group have experienced. I would like to say that K-pop is really hitting the entertainment world even during the pandemic just like the Bangtan Boys or famously known as BTS, we just can’t get enough of them. Even other countries have appreciated K-pop

so much that most of the songs are hitting worldwide charts especially Billboard. If you knew Girl’s Generation, EXO, Bigbang, 2NE1, SHINee, Super Junior, Wonder Girls and many more, they have changed the music world and admit it or not, we are kinda addicted to their songs and their appearances. The K-pop world has entered the world especially in this generation. It’s widely spread from generation to generation; millennials, generation x are sharing the same love when it comes to K-pop.

Blackpink is just one of them. American top charts has recognized not only BTS but also the Blackpink. if they release a song, you can expect it will be on top and gets millions of views in just an hour from released and so this movie that the Blackpink made for their fans is like a mini remote concert and a reminiscing of memories. I believe this movie was a follow up from their virtual concert that they released last January 2021 worldwide. The Show was streamed exclusively in Youtube for those who paid for it that time and I think this is a follow-up.

My experience? Yes and no. Yes, I know what will happen, lots of singing and lots of blackpink songs to be dancing into while inside the cinema. No, because I think The Show was the one that deserved the limelight in the big screen instead of this movie. I felt like this movie was just a credit part of the The Show. I liked it, yes, but I expected a documentary-based movie which I had experience in some other artist’s shows just like this one. No, I’m not complaining but I just wanted more. If you have watched The Show and compare The Movie, it will be easy to choose The Show coz I saw more of it and more of them in their. What I’ve seen in The Movie are the replays of The Show that’s why I kept saying it’s like the credits/post credits scene of The Show.

What I liked about it? I loved how they focused on the fans, on how big the fans were and the support they’ve been giving all through out their journey. I got teary eyed when all of the girls are saying that they have missed playing and singing in the crowd because, we all wish we are in front of a stage with the Blackpink singing on it. I would pay for that. And you’ll realized, while you’re watching, is that, yeah, covid really hit everything so hard that we just now watch a concert in a big screen not in person. I would’ve loved to have the Blackpink visit Abu Dhabi and yes, I bet it would hit just like Dua Lipa’s visit before. I can feel what the girls feel, I mean it’s like Justin Bieber’s tour being cancelled but the difference is all concerts are cancelled. I’m like those fans who bought tickets but got disappointed coz I just got a refund but not a performance. The movie has also showed how perfectly ruined the entertainment industry because of covid and even the artists are getting sad because of it, well we all are, that’s without a doubt.

I can’t contain the right words but it’s sad to watch a concert inside the four walls of a cinema, right?

Well, all in all, I’ve enjoyed this, but I gotta conclude this moview that I expected more and I loved The Show better than the movie. But Imma give this a 90% wonderroanne rating!

The movie is available until August 8 in selected cinemas all over the world, so if you’re part of those cities which are lucky enough to have it, please watch it! If you haven’t watched The Show, I believe there are replays of it, and I bet you could watch it again so you could compare.
