She’s called “People’s Princess” for a reason. You know her, I know her but not very well as the people of UK do coz she’s the one and only Princess Diana of Wales. You may have heard of her from your history books or many while you’re reading stuff about Monarchy and it is very known that she’s one of the most famous person in the world, so I think even the young people nowadays know her at least a much as I do.
There have been TV Series and movies that was focused on her and her story but this 2021, a musical and a movie was released and I think this is quite a great year to see a story about her. Oh and there are also documentaries about her. You see, she’s just not your ordinary princess, she’s married to Prince Charles of Wales and she’s the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry but I’m sure most of us know how she died and what’s the theories behind it.
So I won’t be surprised if there will be so many opinions that will come out reviewing the new Movie and Musical that was released about her. So let’s start with Diana: The Musical, for those who haven’t seen it, it’s now streaming on Netflix since the beginning of November. It’s all about the moments from when Prince Charles and Princess Diana met, dated, became a couple, wedded and had their family; despite of this, being a fiction work only, I think many of the viewers for sure imagine it as if this what really happened inside the palace. Well, we never know.
I also was amazed with the use of songs and the whole choreography and they actually portrayed all the characters well. I’m still surprised how I felt it was the real story of Princess Diana and her relationship with Prince Charles. I think, the writer had made it to a point that viewers will see some nostalgic moments of the issues and controversies that the royal family had experience during the day.
The musical has become a delighted symbol of what was believed to have happened during the days of Princess Diana but we all know that the story has reached a millions that’s why watching it into some sort of theatrical setting, I think it is just as brilliant as the TV series, documentaries and the movies that we see.
Continuing the amazement that I feel because of watching movies and series about Prince Diana, the latest movie that was released that was entitled Spencer (Diana’s real last name) is played by none other than Bella Swan, Kristen Stewart. The movie is all about the life of Diana during her days when she was still married with Prince Charles, however, this movie had focused on the darker side of the story of Diana, in the beginning, viewers will just think that this is a simple portrayal of Diana’s life but no, the director had focused on showing the anxieties and the miseries that the princess must’ve felt when she was in the palace. With all the securities and traditions, even the name they need to uphold, it was clearly the opposite of what Diana was living for. It was also shown in the movie, despite of yet again being a work of fiction, that there’s really something with Diana’s aims for herself and her children that could’ve been focused in real life when she was alive only if she was being heard.
My most favorite part in the movie is the Christmas presents, we all know that royal families need to open their gifts during Christmas Eve but we don’t know how that really feels for William and Harry, well, the movie has shown a bits of it and I think surprisingly even Diana’s eating disorders and the mental issues was focused on this dark side of the path. When Diana was still alive, there were allegations that she have gone trying to kill herself; cutting herself with a razor, cutting herself with a slicer, throwing herself on the stairs and other darker details which I believed the movie had cherished to focus instead of creating another cliche movie about the princess.
Kristen had done a great job with her acting and I couldn’t name anyone who can play Diana next. I’ve watched The Crown, the one who played Diana there was also remarkable but, Kristen did her homework very well. She looked hell like Princess Diana, even her mannerisms were there. It’s she studied Diana very well. This deserve a recognition and I think this is one of Kristen’s epic films. I have no complains about this movie coz from the start to end, I loved how they portrayed the dark side of the story. It’s like you’re really there watching her suffer. It’s like you’re in a reality TV show.
P.S. Yes, they also did focused on Diana’s iconic dresses and outfits. Of course, I am amazed how Kristen had managed to be in that very nice chiseled body! I love her over all look! She’s a grace!
All in all, Spencer and is one of a kind, also Diana: The Musical is sweet and fun which also signifies the part of Diana’s life where she was loved by every one. All the glamour and all the paparazzi photos, the real story was never really told and everything we see is mere theories and nothing but maybes. The only sad part is that Diana is just going to be a symbol of a life that was wasted, and a Princess that the whole world has lost. Would definitely give Spencer a 90% wonderroanne rating!
