I still cannot contemplate on how I will start reviewing the new Marvel movies, starting from Shang Chi to the Eternals. If you have noticed, I haven’t done any reviews since the release date because I believe it is no great work for me to conclude something I’m literally confused about. Not to mention the flawless and epic transition of Spiderman and Venom in the latest MCU. My question is, where do Shang Chi and Eternal go in this timeline? Are they going to meet the newest Avengers or even help them?
Who are the Eternals? In a world where we know the Avengers, here comes the Eternals. These are the gods of the MCU and they are not just any superheroes, they are considered the gods in the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe and when I say gods, I’m talking about the mythical gods who were believe to have lived thousands of years. In the comics, Eternals were sent to experiment on humans which depicts the mere existence of Eternals, they are still under celestials. In short, Celestials are the real gods. In the movie, they are still created by celestials but only to continue the cycle of creating a universe where they are instruments of destruction, it’s like they were considered the bomb that will make the world vanish and so that story leads us to the whole plot of the movie.
What is their purpose? I’m not sure of that but what I can see is they are trying to create another MCU introducing the world of celestials and other connections or possible opening timeline for another creatures but it is still confusing, I mean, Avengers are somehow the superhero we have normally watched and known but why would MCU share the limelight to Eternals, and why now? Would’ve been great if they had them during the Endgame, right? Yes, those were my initial thoughts but I think the difference of the new MCU now, they are actually introducing more underrated comic characters that were actually more powerful than the Avengers.
How are the Eternals different? Come to think of it, a very fast eternal, one with a laser eyes, one who can blind you with his own thoughts or one that can change water into wood and the goddess of war that has a little mental issues, fast as lightning, and so much more; these powers were so familiar, right? I’m a DC fan, so you know who I am talking about and that is crazy, I know there were characters in both DC comics and Marvel Comics that have the same capabilities that is why I think they disregard Eternals for a very long time coz every viewer will just be reminded of the Justice League. The only difference is that they were actually made to become a weapon to defeat and experiment humankind.
Who else should we know more about? The Deviants, these are the creatures made by the celestials that were sent to humankind before the Eternals, only to find out that they’ll be needing a fix and Deviants because the destruction themselves. In the comics, Deviants were almost like Eternals but in the movie they were completely made as senseless creatures that kills whoever gets in their way. Deviants, for all I know were the main villains in the comic series of Eternals. In the post credits of the movie, the celestial took one of the eternals and also I think Kit Harrington has connections with the Eternals and who will be the new characters that will come in the next film? I means there’s so much to know about. I’m also trying to process some theories that Shang Chi and the 10 rings might have some connections with the 10 immortals too but the theory is still vague and not consistent but a possibility will be endless, yes?
Did the movie justify the big change on the MCU? I think, yes and no. Yes because these are new additional characters which I believe if were taken seriously can actually make a good team up to the newest Angers that the MCU will release in the future. However, no, because I don’t see the connection, like where do they enter from this scene? If we start the MCU from Shang Chi, the only possibility of them meeting up is if Wong would’ve just open some portal and put a deviant in the city where the avengers are living and let the Eternals handle and tam up with them but that will be a little too tight coz, if you have watched Shang-Chi, there’s so much more to tackle rather than crossing over with some immortals that obviously are still not a solid characters in the newest MCU. The whole story of the Eternals seems so close to the story of the mutants, the X-Men so I’m thinking, Marvel can actually pull off some changes and enter the Xmen in the same universe, but that won’t happen soon, it’s just me dreaming of a crossover.
What do you think of the movie? I liked it except the part where they had to kill Gilgamesh, coz he is my favorite eternal character. I also love the comedy that Karen Patel, the assistant of the Eternal Kingo, who stayed by his side, trying to capture all the moments in his vision to create a documentary about the Eternals. I’m afraid this is the only thing I enjoyed while watching the whole movie. Don’t get me wrong, the movie was great just not for my liking and it lacks so many things, which I guess was fair, considering that they are actually building a new storyline for the MCU but yes, I still don’t get the point. Do they get to be the reason why Celestials might come to Earth and just become the newest villain or they might spark a new storyline too. We all are not sure but yes, it’s too early to tell. Especially, they have been talking about who will lead Avengers now, can it be really one of the Eternals? Well, time will tell.
Despite so many issues about having a gay superhero and the inspiring part where we get to have the first superhero who is actually deaf and mute, the movie was good but not like Venom-good, I mean, right now, there’s so much going on in the mCU and I think they need to slowly rebuild this storyline which can take lots of movies and lots of crossovers. It tool more than 10 movies for Endgame to be known, so I won’t be surprised if the new MCU will build it slowly but with perfect connections to each of the installment they’re going to release. I’m giving this a 87% wonderroanne rating!
