Have you ever watched Cinderella-like Dramas lately? Let me share some titles with you, True Beauty, What’s wrong with Secretary Kim; I think those are the best example so far for modern day rich-poor love story but not in a dramatic way, in fact these dramas are mostly romantic-comedy. And many of us just wanted to see Korean dramas with lighter side of drama and more on the comedy side just like Hometown ChaCha.
Netflix is now streaming a new K-drama series called Business Proposal, this series is actually based on webtoon entitled The Office Blind Date. Starring Kim Se-Jeong as Shin Ha-Ri (You’ll probably recognize her in School 2017 and The Uncanny Counter) and Ahn Hyo-Seop as Kang Tae-Moo (You’ll see him in Dr. Romantic Season Two, Abyss and Lovers of the Red Sky.) This TV Series is directed Directed by Park Seon-ho and written by Han Seol-hee and Hong Bo-hee. It is about unexpected lovers that met in a little crazy way.
This is a disclaimer, I will have to spoil some points to complete my moview, coz this is quite an interesting series; so if you haven’t watch the series, feel free to close the tab and go back later. Please read at your own risk…
Synopsis
The series is all about a blind date gone wrong. Well, let me elaborate; Kang Tae-Moo was forced by his grandfather into finding a future wife and so he agreed on going in a blind date arranged by his grandfather. Shin Ha-Ri, on the same day was asked by her best friend Jin Yeong-Seo (played by Seol In-A) to pretend to be her and make a mess during the date as to have a reason to bail out on any agreement made by her family with her blind date’s family. Without knowing the circumstances, Shin agreed and later on discovered that she is on a blind date with her company’s President. She tried her best to mess the date up but Kang Tae-Moo, was actually mortified and surprised with Shin’s attitude, he later on decided to create a contract between the two of them, making Shin agree on marrying him just to please his grandfather. Classic story, right? And then of course, Kang falls in love with Shin slowly until they both realize that they need to clean up the mess they have made. Shin however still has to make sure she won’t recognized by Kang while she’s at work, which in fact later revealed in the middle of the show.
The main conflict of the show was Shin’s 7-year crush and that didn’t end well because she was so involve with that guy and when she had Kang, this guy just bluntly realized that ‘hey I like Shin too.’ I guess that’s the main conflict of the story however this also became the reason for the climax of the story to blow-up because Shin’s best friend’s girlfriend got jealous of her and revealed her identity in the crowd.
While everything is going on with their lives, the series actually focused on not only one but two couples, Jin Yeong-Seo, is actually attracted with someone she met in a grocery store, which she considered as love at first sight not knowing that the man was Kang’s secretary, Cha Sung-Hoo (played by Kim Min-Kyu) while Cha Sung-Hoo has the same sentiments however, he first discovered that Jin was the real Jin and not Shin which gave them an alternative start but really funny one.
Later on in the series, Kang and Shin had to pretend from everyone including his grandfather and when they were finally exposed, his grandfather asked Shin to stay away from Kang which is really a classic love story for a rich-poor couples. While Jin and Cha is experiencing the same however, Jin was brave enough to choose Cha over her father’s wealth.
The Verdict
The series had me rooting for all of them to be happy but in more ways than one, I was enjoying Jin and Cha’s story even from the very start. It was just so funny and genuine like it will really happen in real life, it was so mundane. I love it when Jin’s cousin just came in the middle of the story not knowing they were actually in love with the same person a perfect plot for rivals, right? But the whole story was very light that you haven’t seen a heavy drama at all. And the line “You know I have no Chingu(Korean word for friend)” is getting viral because of Jin’s rival cousin
The scenes that I love the most too were; when they had to hide Kang in Shin’s room and also when they discovered that Kang is Shin’s lover not knowing he is the President of the company where Shin is working, and one more was when Kang had to rent a food stand just to fulfill Shin’s dream which he had discovered because he has been stalking Shin’s instagram account.
Oh, I also love the part when Jin and Cha kissed in the parking lot and Kang was there watching. It was so funny that I had forgotten they were even hiding and the look in Kang’s face is priceless.
However, this series is so much alike What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim and WWSK is way funnier and more romantic and Kang has similarities Park Seo-Joon; you can look him up.
P.S. Jin and Cha’s way better in steamy scene 🫣🤭

All in all, I love the plot, I love how the ending was actually in the happier side and of course I love the comedy. I would definitely give this 90% wonderroanne rating. And highly recommended to watch. We all need dramas like this, it’s time to up your game if you really like rom-com movies and TV Series. Put this in your list.
