The Secrets of Dumbledore: A What Now?!

April was never my favorite month this year because most of the movies I saw were far from the movies that I loved in the previous months. All I’m saying is, movies being released lately are either boring or doesn’t even have the edge. Don’t get me wrong but I’m a Harry Potter fan but Fantastic Beasts has never been a favorite for me. Although this series can be a stand alone, in fact, you don’t really need to know who’s who in HP movies just to know the Fantastic beasts characters.

I’ve got to say, I tried my best to finish the movie and think about something good to say however, yes, the first film was okay but second one and the one released in April, they don’t seem so appealing to me. You wanna know why? I guess you will have to click more !

To tell you honestly, the whole movie got me a little confused because everything is all over the place, like all the details and the story of each characters are not clear enough to be understood. The movie nevertheless, gave me some awkward feeling that despite my bias opinion when in comes to Harry Potter movies, I know that this trilogy is not for me. I didn’t get the story, not literally but subjectively. For most parts, the whole story is scattered and you just don’t know why they were there and in that moment, this is like telling a story starting from the back of the book then finishing on the first page.

While watching the movie, I felt like I am in a very boring movie which doesn’t actually capture any of the viewers’ attention. It was pretty much information overload that I think was a little too much for me especially it is a throwback movie and we are all supposed to assume that Harry Potter doesn’t exist yet.

There are so many thing I found a little confusing but anyway, I’m gonna tell you the plot while I’m writing about anything that is confusing about it. First, they started the movie with the minions of Grindewald killing a qilin (it’s a deer-like creature that can foresee the future and whoever is the righteous ruler in the Wizarding World. Grindewald is running for election, and I was thinking, maybe he wanted to get rid of qilin so that he will still be the choice of the people to rule without a qilin getting in the way by showing them there’s another better ruler. However, in this film, I thought when Newt had saved the other twin qilin, it will revolve around it, but I was wrong.

Grindewald is powerful enough to rule and to dominate so, killing a qilin is not even gonna make some justice, like if he wants to see the future, he can in swish of a wand but why kill a creature? Plus, I wanted to know, if this is Fantastic Beasts, then why the story plot had gone a little wild and focused on the characters? I would rather see how qilins get their powers or can make them change the world blah blah blah but we failed to see that because after few minutes in the movie qilin is gone, the story is gone and then they jumped into Albus and Grindewald’s love for each other, yeah like, apparently Albus is kinda in love with Grindewald and they cannot fight each other or else they will both die so Grindewald seek help from Credence who is apparently one of the secrets of Dumbledore, he is the son of his brother, so Credence is getting on a revenge plot but without a perfect reason. Being brainwashed to be able to build the character is like not news to us but I think we need more story out of it.

The most mundane scene that I can actually accept was of Jacob and Queenie, like after Queenie just joined the other side, it was really hard for both of them so you will see how the plot around them is going while they stay in their story and I think that’s what the film is supposed to do, however, the whole process of watching film is like I needed to write every scene and every reaction that I have because there’s so much going on that I can’t keep up.

There’s one thing I loved about this movie, it’s when they walk/dance with the scorpions, it was I think the funniest scene but still a little confusing because they have battling all the battles available in that world and I just don’t get who or what they’re battling from. Is it just me or we actually watch an adventure movie without the adventure?

All in all, I accept the film as fair, but not as good as the first film from the trilogy. The second film was without a doubt a flop and this is another one so for me to tackle it all over just to tell everyone how good the first one is, then will have to accept that this movie is gray scale movie that is a little boring in the eyes. Good thing, you can watch Harry Potter or vice versa without watching both series coz they are a stand alone series but if you are a Potterhead, I guess it’s better to skip this series coz it will make you confused of all the existence there is. If you haven’t seen both then much better if you started watching Fantastic Beasts then Harry Potter just because it’s better to watch prequels first.

I would give this movie an 80% wonderroanne rating! Yeah, I said the reason why so don’t be surprised. I just hope they make a new Potter movie minus the disappointments.
