Purple Hearts ( A Moview)

Alright, it’s been a month since I last posted a moview, I have been busy, so you have to give me that but I can assure you that this whole week, I will be releasing moviews because I have watched plenty of TV Series and Movies that are actually great and highly recommended. First among the many is the Netflix Original movie Purple Hearts starring Disney star and singer-songwriter Sofia Carson, whom we loved from Feel the Beat and A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits, plus Nicholas Galitzine who recently starred as well in the musical movie Cinderella with Camilla Cabello and in High Strung. Yes, if you think you have seen them before, then those are your main references.

The movie Purple Hearts is all about two people who are much in need of money, one is a Type 1 Diabetic and one has a huge amount of debts. The two have gone into a whirlwind wedding, well, a pretend wedding just to get some benefits over getting married to a Marine. Cassie, the lady who is in need of a healthcare decided to approach her childhood friend to do an arranged marriage however, the friend is actually involved and so Luke, had to catch up and Lateran realized that whatever Cassie was thinking can actually benefit him in the long run. The two decided to collaborate by marrying each other which will give them an insane insurance coverage and a monthly allowance.

At first, it is really awkward but later on, they got used to it. Cassie lived a normal life with the help of the insurance, not thinking of any possibilities that someday she will run out of medicines while Luke was able to pay his debts little by little. Although seems like the two were strangers, they were able to find some refuge in each other’s arms, they became each others’ muse, Cassie was able to become a popular singer while Luke was able to serve his country.

However, in a very unfortunate circumstances, Luke got injured while in the battlefield and he had to recover, of course with his wife, Cassie. However, the setup was a little difficult especially because they don’t even know how to become a real-life couple because in reality, they weren’t a couple at all. The challenge was they need to make sure everyone believes they story especially Luke’s father who has been serving the marine as well before.

The Verdict

I have so many comments about the movie but the only thing that comes into my mind is that the story was fast phasing. It was too concise that I felt like they had to fit the whole story into an hour and a half time which could’ve stretched out more if they made it a TV Series with 8 episodes, telling all the stories of each of the characters and I think viewers will love to know how does their family and friends deal with the whole pretending thing and of course how the main character just grew up into something unexpected. What I mean is that they deserve a better story plot rather than only having this whirlwind predictable plot which we all know how it will end in the long run.

This movie has taught us so many things as well. this is also an eye-opener for all the people who are experiencing the same. The lack of decent healthcare because of having no money or job is the same as having debts with loan sharks, scary and most of the time, you will not know where to go when you need the cash. I could probably attest to the facts that diabetic people are really struggling with how expensive medicines are because I am diabetic myself and the insulin and other meds are like gold bars, they are too expensive and you’ll be lucky if you are able to buy most of the prescribed medicines by your doctor because sometimes, insurance won’t cover even half of it because they are hell expensive. Even insulin pumps and glucose monitors will add to your bill as well. It’s like buying a game console just to throw every 3 months. that’s how expensive the maintenance are. I’m sure not only with diabetes, it is also expensive for so many illnesses.

I love how they portrayed the characters so well that you won’t even notice that they are acting. I love how they showed us that you can still find love even if you started as strangers, this is the epitome of how people getting into fixed marriages feel. They tend to have this doubt whether the relationship will work or no. Of course, most of the time we can say it does because we are all capable on learning how to love the person in front of us, what is more likely to happen is you tend to love them at their worst first than at their best which is a very good foundation when it comes to relationships. You will need to have something to hold on to every time you feel hopeless. Sometimes, we just focus on the best and we don’t think of the worst and that is not how relationship works, this is causing couples to divorce and be in favor of separation. However, the movie showed us the latter. You will find refuge form those people who will care for you at your worst.

All in all, I love the movie, it maybe short but I love it. I love the plot and I love how they showed whatever is happening right now in reality. This is not only one but this is one of the many that is happening all over the world. Marriage of convenience is actually real, money is the source of everything, sometimes, being practical is the only answer for all your problems especially now that the world revolves around money, there’s nothing that money can buy, oh wait, there is, it’s love.

I would definitely give this a 90% wonderroanne rating. Too concise but too relatable. And the chemistry is remarkable!
