Avatar: The Way of Water (Spoiler Alert)

It’s been 13 years since the first Avatar movie was released and with all the technology upgrades, finally they decided to follow-up Jake Sully’s story and Neytiri’s story and to finally explore further in the other parts of Pandora. For those who haven’t seen Avatar, this is a story of Jake Sully, a paraplegic in mid 22nd century, who agreed to be part of a corporate mission which his twin brother, Tommy(who was a scientist and unfortunately got killed by a pick pocketer) and was a scientist who left a mission to explore the world of Pandora and to be part of the Na’vi people who are living in the place. The main task is to study the possibility of humans living in Pandora and the exploration of the whole place and its capabilities. But little did Jake know, this mission will also change his life and his perception in every aspect of his existence.

As the days go by Jake has then grew fonder of the “Na’vi” people, as he interacts with them and study their ways, he had to think twice in which side he is going to play part on. Na’vi people (especially Omaticaya Clan) call humans the Sky people. While trying to discover and live on the other side, Jake has also discovered the real cruelty that will cause the mission-the part where he had to be choose who to team up with, the soldiers or the scientists?-and so he decided to find an alternative answer but the only way to protect the Omaticayans is to be part of them.

The humans are basically doing the mission to mine unobtainium, this a is a highly valuable rare-earth compound foundon the exo-moon Pandora and in Jake’s case, he had to think twice on doing the mission as he already fell in love with the people, well, with Neytiri to be specific, she’s the one who teach Jake the ways of Omaticayan. He basically felt the need to protect the beauty of Pandora after learning that Quatrich wanted not only to kill the Na’ve but to make them extinct. Jake has immense himself to the world of Pandora that he was able to connect himself deeper to the place than the scientist who came there first. And with the life he could have with his new abilities because being in his wheelchair for his whole life is something he doesn’t want to come back to and so when the Sky people-the soldiers-are forcing their way to get whatever they came in Pandora for, Jake chose to be on the Omarticayan’s side and save them. Save the people who taught him so many things about the new world.

Of course in the movie, he had chosen a life that he have wanted for a very long time, however, the toll of his decisions had come to a war against the Sky people but later on they have succeeded to send the Sky People away from Pandora. Jake has chosen to continue living as a Na’vi and has chosen the life in the bluer side. With Neytiri, they lived together in Pandora and protected the whole place for a very long time.

And there goes the 13-year gap released of a a follow up on the story but this time, they managed to actually connect the story from a 13 year difference. in the new Avatar movie, the setting was 14-15 years from the first movie and so Jake and `Neytiri married each other, had kids together, named Neteyam, Lo’ak and Tuktirey. They also have two adopted kids, one human named, Javier or they known as Spider and Kiri who is the daughter of Grace Augustine. They have lived and adopted to their new normal, living with the Sky people around, and trying to protect what they can and how they can.

However Quatrich has made a new plan of attack in order to kill his mortal enemy, Jake Sully. He found ways to use someone else’s Avatar and input his memories of the whole encounter with the Omaticayan and Jake Sully. He managed to get his own Na’vi clone. He made a mission only to kill Jake Sully. While Jake Sully made his life mission to protect his family and his people from all attackers, especially the ones who wanted to kill him.

After an attack in their territory, Jake decided to go far away to protect the Forest and their family. They went far from the forest and seek shelter into the ocean, thinking they could blend in and live there without Quatrich finding them. They learned how to live in the ocean and met people who can help them adapt in the place. Kiri has also learned that she has some connections with the ocean and what lies deep in it, she has a gift that no one can actually understand aside from her. Lo’ak has also met new friends in the course of the movie, just like any other family, The Sully family has adapted in their new environment as the time goes by.

With the help of scientists and also Spider whom he kidnapped, Quatrich was able to trace Jake’s whereabouts and the forcedly took an opportunity to find him using the ocean Na’vi. However, protecting their own kind, Ocean Na’vi decided to help Jake and his family with their battles and so they fought together to defeat the Sky people. The whole movie was fixed on a fight between Quatrich and Jake Sully. There were so many lives killed and a lost of a family member made Neytiri and Jake eager to defeat Quatrich.

The movies has ended well, as expected and they defeated the Sky People however there are so many questions left in the movie that is actually leading us to thinking that there will be an Avatar 3 coming soon.

This is not an ordinary Verdict-spoiler part but this is where I will explain some of the questions that the second installment will leave you questioning. The movie is better way understood now than it was before. I was a kid when this was shown, 17 years old to be exact and so I think I enjoyed the movie right now more than I did 13 years ago. I finally understood how Na’vi really lived, and supposed to live. How Sky people are deteriorating the Pandora and how the place can actually be part of a human timeline if only Sky people and Na’vi decided to become one with no fighting to be in each other’s world.

The second movie has lighten up my knowledge about the Omaticayans and the Metkayinas who are living in the Pandora’s reefs. I’m more knowledgable right now that I was before, I know what they can do and what they cannot. And at the some point, I managed to follow the story more right now than before. However I feel really sad that Jake and Neytiri had lost their first child, it was the most heartbreaking part of the film. I was expecting they will be enjoying a happy ending altogether.

The movie also left us wondering what Kiri really can do and while wanting to know that, I also want to know why she can do all those things? Why does she have connections with aliens and who her father could be? I mean, he could be the reason why Kiri has some gifts. He could be from another clan or Na’vi specie, right? And also, will there any possibility that Grace will wake up? After all, Kiri said she can feel her heart beating, so I guess there’s a big chance for this to happen. After all, in the first film they have said that “She must pass Eywa and return back”, this might be it?

Another interesting thing, is that Spider is Quatrich’s son and he actually save his Na’vi clone on drowning after Quatrich and Jake fought. But is this some kind of two-faced thing? because he saved him and he came back to the Sully family. Someday, he would have to choose his father over them all over again. But if Spider just had his humanity in tact maybe that’s the reason why he felt some empty towards Qautrich. For all I know, he will choose Sully family because he is quite fond of Kiri and the rest of the family. I think that’s bond he will choose over anything.

Since we met the Omaticayans and Metkayinas, are there any possibilities that we meet many other clans and kinds of Na’vi? I think we could look forward to that because we know Qautrich will still be own the hunt for Jake and his family. He will not stop until he kills Jake.

Well, since we are talking about Quatrich, who is the mother of Spider? Basically, when Sky people left Pandora, they left Spider who can’t use the freezer to return to Earth and so he was left in the Pandora and so he lived there. Who could his mother be? It was left unknown in the film.

Basically, in the movie, Earth is dying and so, is there any possibility that they could actually show what’s really happening on earth? By the 22nd century, I’m sure so many things has changed but I really wanna know how it is dying and why they are eager to live in Pandora. This is like Earth-Mars situation minus the aliens.

Colonel Quatrich was supposed to be dead but he was able to live by respawning into a new Avatar, this is new possibility of creating an army of Na’vi from deceased human soldiers, using their memories aka Recombinants. This can be another side of the story and will be more chaotic than we can imagine.

Why unobtainium is no longer priority? I mean, that was the first thing they wanted before. So now, why it has changed? Is there any reason for us to think that this could be the effect of having a dying Earth on this timeline? Well, since there’s a change of setting and plot, I think they have changed the unobtainium to Amrita, this is the yellow substance that they are collecting inside of a Tulkun(it’s a huge ocean creature that serves as spiritual buddies of Metkayinas)

The Way of Water is very interesting to follow, like I can imagine so many installments for this movie series and I think we will discover more of Pandora, after all, we just discovered the forest, and the ocean.

P.S. I really want to know what happens to Lock’s love life. hahaha, coz he is one interesting teenager in the movie. After all, he also has shown as some kind of gift that he was able to connect with a Tulkun.

All in all, I love this second installment of the series and looking forward for more. I want to know so many things about Pandora, I wish there’s more to know, like a book guide or something because we kind of need a chart for the whole Pandora once we discover the rest of its parts. I would definitely give this a 95% wonderroanne rating.

Well, I hope we have the same sentiments after watching Avatar 2.
