If you have watched That ’70s Show, then you must know that the long wait for a ‘follow-up’ for the series. Yes, That ’70s Show aired on 1998 til 2006. It’s a sitcom revolving around the life of teenagers living in Point Place, Wisconsin. This show has introduced us to Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, well, their tandem actually worked really well in the show. and now after almost 17 years, we are witnessing another come back but this time, it’s set in the 90s.
The story is also the same but now it is focused on the children of the 6 friends from That ’70s Show, and their struggles and experiences during the ’90s. The story is set in 1995, introducing us to the daughter of Eric and Donna, Leia, who was named after Princess Leia because her Eric, as we all know is a huge Star Wars fanatic. Leia spends her summer in Wisconsin with her grandparents. little did she know, she will meet the friends that she will be treasuring for the rest of her life. And probably just like her parents, she will be able to find her first love in Wisconsin or not.
The sitcom was no surprise especially when it is actually set into 1995 and we all know how sitcoms really does feel during the 90s (Well, we have FRIENDS, Frasier and many more…) But the surprise were the cast who went in a reunion surprise. If you watched the first series, you will know who’s who and I bet you’ll be excited to know that Ashton and Mila were actually there in the first episode making the Kelso moment alive again! Okay, a little bias there, I really like Michael Kelso.
The series has its own story, relevant in the early 90s and I think no matter how retro it looks, because of its setting, I think Gen Zs will actually like this show more than ever, because why not? In the generation full of TV series, sitcoms are actually starting to be forgotten and I think having some is not a bad idea, I mean, sitcoms are actually like a stand-up comedy, it’s like you’re watching a comedy show in a theater. Yes, I’m talking about how the set is made and I guess the effort and the creativity are more articulated in sitcoms.
For those who haven’t watched it, I think it is best to watch That ’70s Show first then watch That ’90s Show next. However, I think Netflix is not streaming the 70s Show, you’ll just have to find another medium to watch it all over again and then proceed with the 90s Show on Netflix.
All in all, for those who want some nostalgic feeling while watching sitcoms, then this show is for you. It’s not too old, and not too new, it’s in the middle of everyone’s ages and I think all generations can meet halfway by watching this show.
I would definitely give this a 88% wonderroanne rating.
