Ginny & Georgia S2: Review(Spoiler)

Rating: 5 out of 5.

If there’s so much going on nowadays, that’s having so many shows to watch in Netflix and one of the latest ones is Ginny & Georgia. The show has been a success since its pilot season and now Netflix has released the second season which I definitely didn’t expect. The series had gone to so many reviews online and I think the second season deserves an update too and what am I here for aside from giving you the latest, right?

Well, for those who haven’t watch any of the seasons, let me give you a recap of the season 1. Ginny and Georgia are mother and daughter tandem, who moved to Wellsbury with Austin, Ginny’s half brother with Georgia. They built a new life out of the scraps they left in their previous hometown. However, not everyone they left were so happy that they left the town and so, Kenny’s ex-wife, Georgia’s deceased husband, is now trying to press charges on Georgia to stop her from getting Kenny’s money. She hired a private investigator to follow them in Wellsbury. Georgia, had to hustle back to her feet to provide for Austin and Ginny and so she made sure that she is going in the right foot with everyone in their new hometown, but she’s been making the whole moving to another city all over again for her children especially for Ginny who has been struggling with mental health without Georgia knowing.

Ginny has been burning herself to satisfy her cravings to self-harm. While in the new town, she met new friends and new boys who got interest with her. One is Hunter and one is Marcus, Marcus is the next door neighbor who is a bit of a rebel and just gives Ginny a tease, while Hunter is a almost-perfect boy with his talent and intellectual capability and yes, he has better grades than Marcus. In the events, Hunter became Ginny’s boyfriend but Ginny was playing fire with Marcus and so all of this had took a toll on Ginny giving her a major anxiety attacks.

The whole season 1 revolved around Georgia’s secret and Ginny’s reaction after finding her mom’s secrets, of course didn’t go well with both of them and so they had so much conflict. Adding to that is Georgia’s relationship with the town mayor and the enemies she had made, Cynthia, a PTA mom who tries to run for mayor against Paul Randolph, the current mayor.

In the second season, there’s more on dealing with Georgia’s past, but this time, she had Ginny to understand her. everything she was keeping, she had to reveal it with Ginny. She also discovered that Ginny has been harming herself and so she went to therapy with her and realized that whatever she did, she is doing it to protect her children however, in order to protect them she needs to protect herself too. In second season, we saw how Zion, Ginny’s dad helped her and was able to find a new partner, how Gabriel, the private investigator just went through all the possible measures just to make Georgia pay for all there crime’s she dis, discovering about Georgia’s past including her first husband. While goin all through this, another pain in her past came in town, and that’s Austin dad, Gil. who happens to be an abusive person but Georgia kept that form her children. Gil was there to blackmail Georgia after discovering that Georgia is getting married to the mayor.

Austin, became more involved in the story when Gil arrived town. Knowing Georgia, she had to do things that she knows can protect her children. However, she didn’t notice the bad side of what she’s doing, making everything around her vulnerable including herself. Second season also focused on Marcus and Ginny’s struggle with depression and anxiety. After spending Christmas with his grandparents, Marcus just went all out dark and sad, making his relationship to Ginny in danger. The two grew fonder but they became far from the way they were before because of each other’s mess.

With all the conflicts that has been happening, Georgia came to the decision of cancelling the wedding however, with Ginny convincing her, she told everything that she is keeping to Paul,. trying to make him understand why she’s going to cancel her wedding, surprisingly, Paul decided to protect her and their future family. He made sure that Georgia will feel that she won’t have to deal with everything alone.

The verdict

The second season is surprisingly interesting because they focused more on mental health. They managed to show how a person with depression can seem happy and just sad inside, or even how fast the intervals of mode swings can get and how hard it is to overcome it if you don’t talk about it. It also showed the viewers how therapy can help and how being open to your family members can make the struggle a little easier.

Now, this is not an ordinary review, because the whole season of Ginny and Georgia, actually focused on mental health, how it can affect someone or everyone around them. The stigma in our society right now even before is that getting professional help means you are going crazy. Telling someone that you have depression is like telling someone you want to kill yourself. That’s what automatically comes into mind. But little did anyone in society know is that the more you question someone’s struggle, the more they keep it to themselves and what they do during an outburst? Sadly, some of them take their own lives or even go and kill people around. Depression and anxiety have no face. Sometimes, people who have the widest smile in their faces just have the saddest stories. Many celebrities and normal people commit suicide because of depression and anxiety. The feeling won’t just go because it will stay even when you are older and when you’re older, handling it will be more difficult because you have to deal with so many things other than your depression. You need to keep to yourself your pain full cries whenever you get panic attacks. you need to make sure not a single person will judge you so you will just tell them that you’re okay.

The whole series just showed us how Marcus went from okay to not so okay and not even Ginny noticed that. It also showed how Ginny became addicted into hurting herself because she cannot tell anyone about how she feels because no one will understand. You see, the stigma is still there. It happens in real life and I see this every day, coz I see this when I look in the mirror every day. One would never feel how anxious I get to face people, how I try to fight to wake up every day knowing that I just wished I stay inside my room and do nothing. I try so hard to teach myself to look in the mirror without hearing voices in my head telling me I’m not enough. I try so hard to wake up every day to go to work and not go on a major breakdown. No one will know what you feel because no one will understand. No one will understand why I choose to eat by myself instead of sitting with other people who looks at me with their disgust in their eyes, no one will understand how I convince myself every day that I am perfect for who I am. No one will hear me cry when I feel my gut turning, when I see a crowd of people. No one will hear my silent cries and even the tears that I shed during my sleep.

What I learned throughout the years is that, no one will understand you even your therapist and so you will have to learn how to trust your own self and how to be strong for your own good. I know not everyone can do it, because it’s hard, I’ve done it since I was a kid and I’m still doing it now that I’m an adult. It definitely gets worse when you’re an adult.

Not to mention all those tear-jerking moments between Ginny and Georgia. Not all mothers are perfect but they always make sure their families will have the best and I think this show just justified all kinds of mothers because all of them will fight for their children no matter how hard or complicated there fight is going to be.

All in all, I’m glad that this show didn’t hold back. They tried to portray something that the society keeps on ignoring.

Ending…

Mayor Paul chose to marry Georgia despite of the things she told him. Austin decided not to tell anyone how he saw her mother kill Tom (Cynthia’s bedridden husband), Ginny learned how to see other people and not just think about herself, making her eyes open to whatever Marcus was facing. However, the show ended with not so nice setting but I think they did that to make sure that viewers will know that there is a season 3 for this show. Gabriel came into the wedding reception along with the cops, arresting Georgia for killing Tom. Ginny discovered that Austin knows something.

Now, I’m pretty curious how the story will go. There’s so many questions in my head, one is who saw Georgia, killing Tom? Would Joe really going to have a relationship with Cynthia? What’s gonna happen now with ginny and Marcus? Would Austin testify for his mom or against his mom? Having all these questions is just making me more excited for the next season. Well, I’m hoping for more Ginny-Marcus focused story too. There’s a potential in there. A story to tell which can also grow and blossom. Plus, if you have noticed, the show is also focusing on loving yourself and all those teenage problems and insecurities. I hope they also focus on the kids’ issues too coz I think there’s so much more to tell about them too.

I’m definitely giving this show a 92% wonderoanne rating.
