Here’s Joe, a lonely bookstore keeper, fell in love with a grad student and made sure that he is there to ‘protect’ her and I mean protect, it literally means nobody should get in their way. We have all 3 seasons to prove that Joe might actually just be in the wrong place and at the wrong time. he keeps on getting himself in a situation that he cannot escape. In the second and third season, he met a real psycho, in the identity of Love, he married him for the reasons that a marriage shouldn’t even start with. His life actually revolved into killing people who just gets in the way and Love just prove that she can actually more than capable of doing Joe’s job more than him. They basically build a family but while building one, they failed to save their relationship, the harder they tried the complicated things have been ending. Well, this 2023, the creators of YOU just made the show more complicated that it is today. Let’s start with Joe flying to Paris to follow Marienne, whom Love warned about Joe. She is running away from Joe to save herself and her daughter, which leads too Joe to start a new life as Jonathan Moore, a professor at a university in London. The real story of this season is when Joe meet the rich couple, Malcolm and Kate who are living adjacent to his apartment and like what Joe has been used to do, he’s peeping in the life of others, trying not to get involved but always ends up getting into their lives as quick as a fox can run.

Malcolm introduced him to more people, rich people. However, these people are not just your normal rich kind, they are hiding secrets more than anyone in their circle a secret that slowly been revealed in the show slowly. It’s pretty much like Gossip Girl, but with killer on the loose. The complicated event began when Joe, woke up from a night out with his new rich friends, finding Malcolm dead on his table top. Like the usual Joe, he would get rid of it as if he was the one who killed him. Basically, he was framed into killing Malcolm which he didn’t do and we all know that. But the game just began as soon as Malcolm has been missing, the killer killed Simon too, an artist who was Malcolm’s friend as well.

Joe is in the middle of a scenario that he cannot even escape because the killer just know who he is and he can actually tell everyone his past and everything that can pin him down to killing these people. But Joe is trying to smart about it and the whole season, he has to know who the killer is, because the knife-holding-death-judge is just out there, in this new circle of people, killing the rich and privileged.

Just like what I have said, each of them has a story and I think they deserve some spotlight.

1. Kate – an art Gallery, Malcolm’s girlfriend and her father is actually a powerful one.
2. Malcolm – He is the life of the party, everyone hates him but they just don’t show it. He is also a professor in the same university where Joe is teaching.
3. Adam Pratt- maybe the only American in the group rich English people. He got rich because of his father and some investment and NFTs. He also has a kink. Golden shower kink.
4. Lady Phoebe- she’s the influencer of the group. Whatever she does, she post. She also has a secret crush on Joe.
5. Roald – Kate’s childhood friend who is apparently obsessed with her and he thinks that Joe is actually the killer
6. Simon – an artist, as he wants everyone to believe. He was killed by the killer before we even know his story but yes, he is using other people to draw for him and he will show it in his exhibit as his work.
7. Sophie – another influencer and Simon’s sister. We never had a story focused on her in part 1, but yes, she is also an go-with-flow kind of character in the series.
8. Gemma – the annoying friend who is degrading all the people beneath her. She thinks that she can actually control everyone. She maybe rich but she doers’t have manners. Was a little glad she was killed too.
9. Blessing – she is one hell of a story. she loves seeing crime committed in front of her. However, she’s not that much in the story.
10. Connie – I don’t actually know what he is in the series aside from their extra friend.
11. Rhys Montrose – Mayor wannabe and actually the killer. Yes, he is killer and he played really damn good in his own game however, I wonder what he can do now that Joe knows his secret. Will he kill Joe? or make him part of the plan.

The series is divided into two parts and we are just seeing the first part, which I guess can actually standalone as a full series. I like how Joe managed to keep calm after all of these incident but the most parts were still unclear. And some of the plot stories had holes in it. Just like Nadia, what is her connection with Malcolm? Well aside from having an affair and other things but what can she really do to help Joe? Will she ever help him in the Part 2?

I also have some doubts about Marienne being still alive, will she actually show up in the part 2 and reveal who Joe really is, but that won’t be necessary anymore because Kate knows Joe, Rhys knows Joe so I think it’s enough to say that Marienne being in the part 2 won’t be possible…I guess.

If Rhys becomes the Mayor, he can actually kill all the rich people in London but why the hatred if he is actually one of them? I have so many questions for this series and I think before I even conclude whatever I think about the show, I think I need to wait for the part 2. But all in all, this part 1 is relatively good and I bet you’re gonna like more than anything else, although there are some holes in it, it is exciting to watch especially now that while we watch the series we actually don’t have any idea who the killer compare to the first 3 seasons that we know Joe is the killer. Right? It’s like everything turned around and now we will have to wait who will win. The serial killer wanna be(Rhys) or the original serial killer(Joe).

I’d definitely give this part 1 a 92% wonderroanne rating for its plot twists.
