Is this the final season of Joe Goldberg? Or there’s certainly more? We don’t know… but what I know is that I have so many things to say about this season. I actually did review the first part so if you wanna read it you can click here.
Well just like the usual, we are spoiling some details or maybe more, so please do click at your own risk…
In the first part, we saw how the Eat Rich Killer managed to kill most of Joe’s new elite friends. We also discovered who the killer is, which was Rhys Montrose. On the second part, everything is going as is, Rhys, trying to run for office, Kate, trying to get ahold of her name without her dad’s help, Phoebe trying to make sense about everything, including her relationship with Adam, she even married Adam while on drugs because she can’t seem to find any reason to even be sane ever since Gemma died and other of her friends.
Joe’s student is however getting some inkling that Joe is not what he is trying to show everyone, he is more than a professor, he is something more dangerous. This made her pry more and investigate more. until she finds out that Joe is actually hiding something big, bigger than we thought was gone after Love Quinn.
Joe continued to live a normal life without even thinking about anything, he eventually got together with Kate and well, it made sense, coz Kate doesn’t even care about his past, even if he has killed people. However, there is something wrong, with Rhys’ continues blackmails and even asked Joe to kill Kate father and then vice versa, Joe started to get manic. And then one night, he had enough of all the Marienne blackmails that Rhys was making.
He wanted to be a step ahead of Rhys and so when Kate’s father give him a hint where Rhys’ live, he then do his thing and tied Rhys up to get some truth by means of torture. But the torture had gone wrong, Rhys kept on insisting he doesn’t know Joe and then yes, Joe tied his balls and eventually tortured him until he died. Surprisingly, Joe hallucinated, seeing another Rhys, but this time, an alive Rhys, wearing clothes. Are they twins? Well, at first I really thought that was the twist, like he killed the wrong person and everything will be pinned on him but, hell no, the alive Rhys was the Rhys that kept blackmailing Joe and the dead Rhys was actually the real Rhys Montrose. The now still alive Rhys was actually only living in Joe imagination. His subconscious created this whole identity of Rhys to basically escaped the truth about himself.
Yes, readers, Joe is getting crazier every day. Rhys Montrose is a real person but he doesn’t know Joe, Joe created him in his subconscious and it made him believe that the real enemy here is Rhys and not him and he wanted to escape is past by creating this fictional present that he is living in right now. In reality he is the Eat rich killer and he is the one who killed those social lite new friends that he met in London. The Rhys that he has been seeing is not blackmailing him for in exchange for Marienne but is actually helping him to remember that he actually had forgotten something so important that if he will not remember, he will get in trouble.
Remember the huge glass cage he built? Yes, it was sitting on the abandoned building where chopped off Malcolm’s body. It’s his new lair, his real self made that and his new self cannot even remember. He basically kept Marienne in there, despite of us seeing that he let go of Marienne when she planned to go back to Paris.
When he came back to himself, he decided to let go of Marienne for real this time, but he thought it was too late because his student Nadia, discovered the lair before Joe even did. She also discovered who Joe really is. So made to herself a plan to help Marienne escape by making Joe believe Marienne died.
What happens now? Well, Two things, while Joe is having difficulties on figuring out what he will do with Marienne, he thought he was too late when he found Marienne lying on the cage, dead. He left her in a bench and he just walked away, making the police think Marienne died of overdose or something, little did he know, it was part of Nadia’s plan and so, Marienne got her escape.
Facing the demons, Joe finally made the true decision to continue what he started by killing Kate’s father as well, to help Kate escape her destiny being in the shadow of her father. After killing Kate’s father, pinning it to one of his body guards, he then decided that he is done with his life and tried to kill himself, he may have felt remorse after killing so many people. But fate just has plans for him and so he wakes up in the hospital with Kate, telling him that her father died and that she is ready to accept who Joe is. Basically, this is Joe’s second life, however, there’s still one more details he hasn’t worked out, it was Nadia which he was able to managed to get away with too. Yes, that was crazy although I won’t get into any details because it was too exciting to tell.
I believe this is the final season of YOU, well I was kinda hoping it is not because now, Joe Goldberg is actually living as himself and well, he finally admitted to everyone his story and made money out of it, thanks to her partner, Kate who basically owns the whole world at this point. I wanna see in the future what the untouchable Joe can do? I think there’s more plot to think of, especially now that he can get away with everything.
All in all, I enjoyed watching it because of the plot twist that no one even guessed about. It’s like, we all were in shocked especially when we discovered that he just made the fake Rhys out. Like yes, it was a psychological thing and it was so morbid. Maybe that’s somehow the whole twist, being with different people, you will want to change yourself to fit in and after all, he wanted to become normal so there’s a reason why he wanted to fit in so badly.
I would definitely give this 93% wonderroanne rating with some expectations of Season 5 to come.
