Okay, so we’ve been busy with work but a good Drama can actually be watched in a full day over the weekend, which I actually did last week and I would say this is not the first time I really did finish a series within the day, this is why I am a movie reviewer up to this date, yes? Couldn’t complain at all, especially when I watch the easiest in the eyes shows which don’t actually give me any regret or whatsoever.

This 2023, Netflix gave us so many series to watch and all I noticed is the Netflix is actually investing on Korean Dramas, which definitely is a good investment because their plots are beyond extraordinary. I mean, it’s not like the usual, cheating, twin got separated, rich-poor lovers kind of plots, but they are actually the fresh ones, even the ones with zombies, they’re definitely stories that you can find no similarities everywhere and that my viewers, is the definition of something new.

We don’t need the whole normal plot thing, we need something different but relatable and I think that is what Kdramas are sending us every time they release new series/movies. This is why investing with them will be a complete win.

And this is what this new TV series is giving us. The Celebrity is a story of a commoner (a non-social person) who entered the world of internet, social media and influencers. She discovered the truth behind all the posts that she sees in the internet and their whole two-faced thing that the real internet world is definitely presenting even in the real-real world.

The story revolves around the Gabin Society and Seo A-ri a cosmetic marketer/sales, played by Park Gyu-young (you’ve seen her in It’s Okay Not To Be Okay), and Han Jun-kyoung, CEO of the largest cosmetics company, played by Kang Min-hyuk (you’ve seen him in The Hospital Ship). Seo A-ri was recongnized by an old friend from high school, Oh Min-hye, played by Jun Hoo-seong. Min-hye is an influencer, who is also a part of the Gabin Society, a group of influencers and elite status ladies in Korea, which includes Yoon Si-hyeon, who even with a no social media presence is actually more famous that any of the Gabin Society girls.

Seo A-ri slowly got the glimpse of the glamour of the influencer world, the freebies, the status, and the followers. She decided to start her own instagram account, posting things about her every day life, until one day, Min-hye introduced her to all her followers during a live selling event. Many netizens actually liked A-ri and so her follower count have grown faster than any of the Gabin girls, which definitely rang a nerve throughout the whole group which gave them the idea of trying the leech on her popularity or actually ruin her image to her new fans.

But one of the followers, @bbbfamous__ helped A-ri survived the wrath of the Gabin Society. This user knows so much from head to toe of every celebrity in the Gabin Society. She helped A-ri get back to the girls by revealing some secrets especially how they got their status and where the money actually came from. In the end, getting a help, means you’ll have to give back or else you will lose everything you got. @bbbfamous got a little clingy with her new friend Seo A-ri and when she started to get famous, she tried to come after A-ri by creating a huge plot twist, with the help of the Gabin Society. She revealed that she was the one feeding her deets about the girls and now, she wants to help them destroy A-ri.

In the end, A-ri lost, causing her suicide and she was pronounced dead but who actually narrates the story, if she is dead? Well, this is where the exciting part starts, no one knows who is now creating a live story telling of all the things that happened to Seo A-ri and what she learned about the Gabin Society. Everyone who knew her, knows that she is dead so everyone who is involved in the story is now trying to find her. Is A-ri really dead? Where is she? How did she survive? Many questions were dropped while watching the TV Series and I thing it was so good enough to have everyone watch it in just a day.

The series definitely depicts the real world. It shows us how fake the internet is, especially the ones being posted online. Many people who posts online are not even happy, they just show you things that will make you think they are happy but there’s no such thing as happiness behind their cameras. All of the things we see in the internet is either pretentious or definitely fake.

In reality, we all do this, we try to post things that can make us seem happy or okay but we actually aren’t. And that is what the series wanted us to see, how internet has become one of the medium that feeds jealousy, bitterness and regret to whoever is viewing others’ nice posts.

All in all, I’d say, you definitely need to watch this TV Series. The ending is actually something to talk about. I don’t need to spoil because I think the series speaks for itself. I’d give this 88% wonderroanne rating.
