The Nun II Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

How many movies are we going to watch until we answer every question on each movie that they release each year? Well, it’s not often that we get them answered actually, especially horror films. It’s always either they have some continuation or they just don’t reveal the whole story for the viewers to get some cliff hanger which I really hate as a movie reviewer because it doesn’t give me any conclusion. Well, to be particular, there were too many installments of Exorcist, Insidious, and Conjuring that were released each year and we just cannot catch up. It’s like a Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This September 2023, Michael Chaves, the director of The Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It has released yet another installment with the Nun movie series. The Nun, for those who don’t know is a story of an entity that dresses as a Nun and kills priests and nuns during the late 1950s. If you have watched the first film, you know Sister Irene and Maurice who actually faced Valak (The Devil Nun). In the first movie, it was revealed that Val was once an angel and became the devil. We also have seen Valak in The Conjuring movie the first time, making its debut as a strong villain in the paranormal world. Valak was actually sealed by the Blood of Christ and later on was freed by the bombs during the WWII. This is how we know who Valak is and what is story behind it.

However, the new movie is actually more interesting because in this new film, they have given Valak more relevant story and after I watched it, I actually told myself, “Yeah, it’s actually sensible to know that the story is like this.” I could say at this rate that this is the first time I actually liked the movie. However, we are still in the loophole because of some revelations during the ending.

Basically the Nun II is set during 1956s, continuing the story of the first movie. Maurice and Sister Irene have met again only to find out that Maurice has been used by the devil to get an important treasure that it has been searching for so many years. Sister Irene managed to find the thing that can kill Valak and supposedly stop the killing of priests and nuns.

All in all, there’s not much to say but, yes, it was actually good. Although the horror for me was so-so, it was effective with the other viewers whom I watched it with. There were lots of screaming and almost-a-cry sounds that I have made fun with while watching the film. It was really yummy how people just engaged to the movie so well.

I would definitely give this a 85% wonderroanne rating because I enjoyed the plot and I also liked the scares this time because even it was predictable, it was actually an effective one as a horror movie.

With regards to post credit scene, yes there is and not even surprised that it’s actually some sort of connection with the Conjuring.
