Daily Dose Of Sunshine: Review

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

How well do we know mental health? How aware are we to even try to understand how a mind of a person with mental illness works? This generation had become more aware of what is the importance of mental health and how to take care of it. We now see so many posts, articles and podcasts about choosing a healthy sanity and choosing peace over toxicity, these are just some examples of us choosing to take of our mental health. However, there’s still the stigma when it comes to visiting psychiatrist and focusing on mental health. People think just because you’re seeking medical help for your sanity, it means you’re crazy, which is far beyond the truth.

I have been reading so many books about Psychology, and I had once thought of entering medical school to study the human brain because I, myself, have experienced and felt how extraordinary the human brain is. Our brain can make you cry, laugh, see things, dream things; it is very complex and there’s just so much to explore and learn.

There are just little to count when it comes to movies and series that tackles mental health, maybe because of the stigma it is sending and the trauma it can trigger the viewers. But surprisingly, the Koreans have yet again broken another norm and released a new drama entitled Daily Dose of Sunshine.

This series is about a nurse who was transferred to the psychiatry department and the adjustment in real time made her learn more about the complexities of the human brains and how it works with different individuals.

This series might be trigger some people, that is why you will have to take caution before watching the series. It is starred by Park Bo-young, playing as the full of sunshine nurse Jung Da-eun. The story is straightforward, not too much drama but instead, it showed how can a nurse be too close to her job that it can also affect her mental health in the long run.

In the show, nurse da-eun experienced episodes of anxiety and depression due to some unfortunate cases and it also showed the viewers that there are still possibility that mental illness can be reversed with the help of the right treatment. Which brings me to the conclusion that this series actually the right triggers and right issues that can enlighten the viewers in order to understand what mental illness really is.

There are so many mental illness and some of them are really well known because it is shown in the media as a dangerous one, like Schizophrenia, Psychosis, Bipolar Disorder, Post Traumatic disorder and Anxiety Disorder. These are just some of the illness that actually exist and because of the stigma, some people are getting discriminated and maltreated because of their illness. This series might have broken the norms and help everyone to understand how these illness really works and how to help someone with such illness in case of episodes.

Some unknown illness were also, Eating disorder, Phobia, Obsessive-compulsive disorder, Dissociative disorder, Paranoia, and Behavioral and emotional disorders. Yes, eating disorder is a mental issue ass well, and most of the time it is related with depression and anxiety as well. Anyway, some of these illness are seen as threats to everyone that is why they think that someone with mental illness is dangerous, hence, they are putting them into asylums for treatments, but there are larger numbers of people with mental illness that are not being treated which is really sad because these are reversible, if treated right.

The series just opened the viewers to more understanding of the cases and I hope this will also give the people with mental illness a louder voice because not everyone talks about their illness to avoid the discrimination in the society. The series is a first step to trying to open the world to the other side.

A person who has experienced social anxiety, depression, eating disorder and etc… will know how it feels when people just tell you “It’s all in your head.”, and will know how it feels when they say you will get better if you just think of happy thoughts… well, to be honest, our brains don’t work like that. There’s just so many things that triggers us and people who are close minded will never understand that.

All in all, I like the series’ focus on mental health and how can it cause someone without mental illness to have one. Because the world is round and we never know, some things just triggers some of our nerves. And also, I liked how they managed to show the reversal or the cure or how to cope up with mental illness. It teaches some people that this is normal, you don’t have to be scared just because you feel like your brain thinks differently with the way others’ brains do.

I’d give this 90% wonderroanne rating! And yes, I didn’t spoil anything coz I want you all to see the series without spoiling every good scene.
