How well do we know the background of our homes? Do we know the back story or maybe how it was built? Most of the time, people buy houses with past stories written with it and sometimes, those stories sticks to the present, and most of the time, in a paranormal way.
Well, there have been horror movies about old houses, old toys, and other old stuff that can be related to the past; some of them were Anabelle, The Conjuring, Poltergeist, Winchester, and Amityville.
This 2024, Universal Pictures is starting the year just right. Releasing a new film entitled Night Swim. Directed by Bryce McGuire, this new horror film is about a family who moved in a new house, looking forward for a new life but little did they know, the house that they bought will change the course of their future.
The moment they moved in, all the paranormal things occurred, especially the sudden change of the head of the family. The occurrence happened during the time when family started using the swimming pool, it’s like everyone of them is getting sucked in. in the middle of the film, they were able to discover the story about the house they just bought. The history of missing people, but not one of them have reported since there’s somehow miracle that the house is giving every after collecting one soul.
I guess the plot is somehow a usual plot for horror movies but the new thing that they added is the unpredictable end, most of the time, they try to create a cliffhanger, tying it up to some upcoming installment but this time, this movie is ending the history of something haunted, which is clearly what will people will do in case they experience the same. We don’t just leave the place, but we try to end the curse in it.
All in all, the movie is somehow surprising but at the same it’s not too overwhelming. It’s a really good start for the year to have movies like this one. I will definitely look forward for more horror movies this 2024. We deserve some scare but not the once that were just too much for the acting. We want something that will scare us more than after we watch it.
I will give this 85% wonderroanne rating and maybe if there’s more horror like this, ratings will be higher.
