Who else has watched A Quiet Place before? Coz if you haven’t, then this is your trial to watch how it began and then probably, you’ll be able to understand the two movies that were released before this one. Those previous movies were actually one of the most confusing movies at first because no one knows how the whole started and so, having the prequel is I guess the 50% answer to all the questions in our head. I still have questions in my head while watching it but I guess it is normal for us to ask because this is a prequel and we still need more answers like the usual.
The new movie is about how the aliens attacked Earth and how the humans have figured out their weakness. Starring Lupita Nyong’o as Samira, she is a resident in a hospice which decided to have a quick tour in the city to watch a marionette show. Lupita having an illness, is ready to die any time, however, she was wishing to go to the city to eat pizza, something she have been trying her best to do so the whole movie. When the aliens attacked on the same day, many people lost their lives and there are people who survived and were able to hide and also the government managed to warn everyone not to make sound because the aliens are blind but can hear the sound of anything. Amongst the survivor is Eric who Samira met after she separated from the group, he became Samira’s trusted and only friend while trying to escape from the aliens. In the end, they got a chance to survive and get help.
The Verdict
The moral of this story is so much obvious in the end more than it was in the beginning. Because of the sudden attack of the aliens we actually never had a chance to build a story but as the movie is getting deeper, the more we realize that the story is sitting right in front of us and we just never knew it was there. I liked how the events are not too redundant just like the two previous installments and the more the movie moves further, the more we are able to see the answers that we are looking for. How do they defeat the aliens, how to to escape them and much more, this wasn’t shown in the previous movies, because in the previous ones, it was already there and we just had to figure out what they are and how they actually came there.
Cinematically strategic, that’s how I will describe this movie. It focused on Samira’s story however, while focusing on her, the actors around are creating and having their own story which is good because the movie may be about aliens or Samira, but still, the manage to create other stories aside from the main ones. One thing that I didn’t like about the movie is how brief it was, making it harder to figure out how the other people managed to survive, like they didn’t show any process of it, like they have shown us only when they are already inside the church and safe and then Samira and Eric had to go through all those chaos only to find out that these same people were now in a boat sailing, isn’t that too much of a shortcut.
All in all, I find the movie sort of an answer to all the hanging questions we had for the previous movies, I’m glad they were able to produce a “Day One” movie because now, we can rewatch the whole thing by putting them in order. I believe that some movies need some introduction, not just a normal climax-beginning-end kind of thing that most movies are being held at in. I would give this 89% wonderroanne rating.
