In all fairness, we have been talking in this blog how korean dramas are significantly different from any other series, just like the Squid Game series; who could’ve known that the games you play when you’re a kid can be deadly? Well, not necessarily deadly, but for those who watched the series, you understand why I wrote those lines.
Squid Game is a series about people who needs money and suddenly they agreed to be in a game where they will win billions of money in exchange to playing children’s games which they have knows ever since they were kids the only catch is that, only one can win and every time they miss a round, they’d be killed, this is how the game worked all throughout the series. People getting killed every time they fail in the game. The main character Seong Gi-hun was lucky enough to pass and win all the games. But since he lost all the people he became friends with during the games, he wanted to make use of his price money to find the people behind these selfish-people-killing games.
Squid Game 2 is all about Gi-hun’s journey to finding who is the mastermind for the game and how they actually try to kidnap people and force them to play and die. This time around, he needs to get in the game again and try to sneak around the camp/island where they are in. He used his money to hire people to find the said island where they held the games and they kept the people they abducted. Gi-hun, at some point, was able to get in but still clueless on how he got there. Now that he was able to enter the game again, he needs to convince people to ally with him and help him.
There are so many characters that were highlighted in the game and most of them had a history of bad handling when it comes to money which is acceptable because that’s the reason why everyone is there however, the new characters right now were kind of interesting, and this time, we will see so many familiar faces that will eventually make the story more interesting.
The season 2 did not end with a conclusion, rather, we were left with a cliffhanger that’s very much a sign that there’s an upcoming season 3. My take on this is that the latest season was just an introduction of what they really had made for the viewers. This might be a debatable topic but this season was not much of an interesting one because the story was so brief that they squeezed everything that they had to, sacrificing the main story of the season.
All in all, there’s so much more questions that we needed to answer, so I guess, it is justifiable o say that we’re gonna have a full review of it once we have the season 3 which will be released this 2025. In the meantime, I will give this a 82% wonderroanne rating.
PS: T.O.P from Korean boy band Bigbang is in this season and everyone went all loco for him which he definitely deserved after being cancelled because of his marijuana use (which is illegal in South Korea) 9 years ago. I believe he suffered enough criticisms and now, it is his time to shine back.
