If you’ve spent half of your life watching Grey’s Anatomy, House, ER The Resident, Chicago Med, Doctors, Hospital Playlist, Dr. Romantic and many other Medical TV dramas, then you will know that we have this standard when it comes to these kinds of dramas. We aim for clarity, not only just about the medical terms but we also need to have the clear picture of the context, how did it happened and also we need to learn form it, and this I believe the samples I mentioned were considered as the standard.
This year, we are served with another medical drama entitled, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call. Just by its title, it gives us all that we need to know. This is about a war-seasoned doctor, Baek Gang-hyeok, played by Ju Ji-hoon (Gen Xs know him from Princess Hours and the Gen Zs know him for Kingdom). He is assigned to a premier trauma center not only to work but to manage it and make it the no.1 trauma center in the country.
His main challenge is to convince the whole hospital that they need to finance and prioritize the the trauma center that he is about to build and to do that, he needs more staff and these staff will have to be the ones he can trust and brave enough to face incoming trauma calls in the future.
He also needs to inspire people in order to join him and his advocacies. To top that, he needs to show everyone that he is capable to saving people despite the stories about him. Well, after watching this, I could definitely say that he is capable on doing that easy. He is a genius.
The Verdict
This is your usual medical drama, yes, but this time, it is more educational, catering to the younger viewers as they make every little medical terms explainable and understandable at the same time. I loved how they put some noted on medical terms while they try to explain it in layman’s term. It’s like you are watching a visual reviewer. The whole production and cinematography is also on point. I love how detailed they try to explain each characters back story but not entirely losing focus on the main story.
I guess, the only thing that lacked in this drama is more episodes because yes, we deserve more of it and if you ask me, each episodes were really short and I want more season for this drama as much as Grey’s Anatomy have. In all aspects, this series is actually very easy on the eye, it is comically funny and yet serious. The comedy never really affected the seriousness of each scenes.
One thing I looked when it comes to reviewing tv series is how it can get my attention form the very first episode, some series can get my attention in the middle of the series, or after few episodes but this one is different. the scoring to details is very meticulous and I say, it is well thought of.
All in all, I enjoyed watching this and would love to get more upcoming seasons of it. I would definitely give this 93% wonderroanne rating. This has to be the new standard when it comes to medical drama because nowadays, Grey’s Anatomy maybe the legend but it loses its spark around Season 15. I definitely stop watching it form there and if you ask me, I’d say, they might’ve just kept the series going for its name sake.
