Swiped: New Normal Dating

Okay, in 2016, I wrote this blog post Modern Day Dating (just click that to read the 2016 article before scrolling through this post…Well, might give you a refresher.)

In 2021, in the middle of pandemic where no one can even travel a few miles away from home or dine out, are the ones in my previous list still holds their stand or do we have a new version of New Normal Dating?

During pandemic, dating apps were getting famous again; Tinder, Bumble & Hinge are actually saved on my phone (Not proud but….yes.) What really happens when you’re single during a pandemic? For what I have seen in the internet for the past few months, people (not only single ones) learned how to cook, bake, plant and even make soap & candles; but most of all, they did Tiktok (A video app that showcases musical, comedy acting and dancing talents) and since it was a lockdown situation all over the world ,any couples have tried doing the tiktok and showing the world how lonely singles are in their homes. Yes, you all deserve to hear that coz I know, you’ve been watching with envious eyes while they do sweet stuff in their videos.

So let’s go back to the real deal here, the million dollar question is…how can singles find love in the middle of the pandemic using the internet and other dating apps? I have listed some few points for the New Normal Dating;

Dating Apps are not yet an old news. Now that we have established that no one can interact in person, the new normal, well, we may refuse to believe it but yes, it still involves the very large pool of dating apps. Admit it or not, at some point, you or one of your friends or colleagues have engaged into having a dating app profile. Although you are not expected to flaunt it everywhere but during this new normal, it is easier for someone to swipe right than to go out and engaged with a eyeball or meet ups.

TV Series You Need To Binge-watch this 2021

Hey guys! I know I haven’t been writing too much lately but I tried my best to keep up. I haven’t been so updated with movies because of the closing of cinemas so I’m rather stuck with subscribing TV Streaming apps such as Starzplay, OSN, Disney+, AppleTV, VIU and Netflix, well, I’m sure there’s other more.

There are so many latest TV Series and Movies which were actually available and if you need some fix on watching old TV Series, there are avaialbale ones too so here’s my list for 2021.

Let’s call this a part 1 of many.

  1. Bridgerton (Netflix) – Based on a novel series The Duke and I for Julia Quinn. It’s more like an English version of Gossip Girl. Well, I’d give this rating a 5 star because I love the books and I trust a series if it’s produced by The Shonda Rhimes. So if you enjoyed Gossip Girl, might as well, meet Lady Whistledown.

2. Mandalorian (Disney+) – It is the first live-action series in the Star Wars franchise, beginning five years after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983). So if you love Star Wars, this one’s for you! Plus, I love seeing baby Yoda!

3. Bling Empire (Netflix) – If you never got the hang from Crazy Rich Asians, then this new reality show about real-life rich Asians who are constantly enjoying their lavish life more than any rich people can imagine. I’m talking about signature brands and high-fashion jewelry plus the drama in this documentary is very much a representation of the rich Asian Community in Los Angeles.

The Drawbacks of Parting Ways

When tragedy happens, and relationships end, there will come a time you’ll remember what happened but you have already forgotten the feeling, or maybe if it still lingers in your mind, you’ll just sit and watch yourself regret. When you thought memories will all just fade easily… you’re wrong. Memories linger in pictures, conversations and […] The Drawbacks of Parting Ways Continue reading The Drawbacks of Parting Ways

Wonder Woman 1984: A Moview

Alright, so I realized, since the pandemic happened, I haven’t been in a movie theatre for a very long time which means, I have missed so many movies to watch and I regret all of those moment although I won’t jeopardize my health and the major budgeting that I am doing right now to be able to live because of the tourism industry (where I’m working) suddenly fell but I believe it will soon rise.

Anyway, enough with the drama, after almost 11 months of not being able to go to the cinema houses, I was determined to go out and be in it for this one particular movie and I’m talking about “Wonder Woman 1984” which premiered last Dec 17. You all know how I love comic superheroes especially their movie adaptation and we both know that it’s obvious how much I adore Wonder Woman, well, I call myself Wonder Roanne for a reason…

After few mishaps with regards the release dates, they finally release it December. This movie is considered as the sequel of the first Wonder Woman movie directed by Patty Jenkins in 2017 which was about how Wonder Woman finally discovered the other world…the world where man are the superiors. Wonder Woman is actually focused on how Diana discovered that mankind is just never easy to define, too many choices and opinion, this resembles the world we are living now, it’s just that, comics have superheroes to keep the peace in every corner of the imaginary world.

So let’s begin the movie review because of course, as a DC Comics fan, I have a lot things to say about this latest entry for my most favourite DC Superhero, second is The Flash, BTW. 🙂

Same as what I always remind my readers, I may have to tell some slight spoilers in this review so for those who haven’t watch the movie yet, stop right here and watch it. Come back when you already laid your eyes on it.

Queen’s Gambit and My Unexplainable Nostalgia (Spoilers Ahead!)

Another Netflix series is topping up the charts since its release. If you haven’t heard about it, it’s the Queen’s Gambit. This is another series which was adapted from a famous novel by Walter Tevis under the same title which was published on 1983. Now, this is not your ordinary TV Series review; I have so much to say about this series and I’m so excited to share it to all of my readers. The series is very close to my heart because I, myself, was feeling that the main character and I shared a lot in common. By ‘common‘ I mean is the love for the game CHESS.

So the 7-episode-long miniseries, is about an orphan who became a prodigy at the early age of eight in the world of chess which was in her time was a game dominated by men. The genius girl, Elizabeth Harmon, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, who is also known for her role in the movie The Witch. Beth, was brought to the orphanage after her mother dies in a car accident. During her stay in the orphanage, she became friends with a foul-mouthed, Jolene, who is played by Moses Ingram. She also met Mr. Shaibel, played by Bill Camp, a janitor who plays chess alone in the basement of the orphanage. He is the one who taught Elizabeth how to play the game and also was the one who discovered that Beth might be a genius when it comes to chess.

Mr. Shaibel and eight-year-old Beth Harmon

Beth is a silent, poker-faced little who only wants to be alone. With the help of sedatives, she was able to play the game in her head before she sleeps at night. With the help of Mr. Shaibel, she got more eager to learn which she figured out at the shortest time possible. in the later years, she was adopted by a childless couple, Alma and Allston Wheatley. With the guidance of Mrs. Wheatley, she was able to attend tournaments

Honest Thief: A Moview

Another action packed-film starring Liam Neeson movie was released last month. Well, we all know who Liam Neeson is, he is the famous actor from the movie trilogy Taken.

The movie is all about Tom Carter played by Liam Neeson, a bank robber who decided to come clean after he met the love of his life. Rebecca: A Moview

Netflix have been releasing good movies lately and by good movies, I mean the ones which are best in novels and they make it more extravagant by adapting it into a film which serve some of the books better because who doesn’t want to see their favourite books come to life, right?

The latest one amongst the best is the latest film adaptation of the novel written by Daphne du Maurier on the same title in 1938 which was also adapted by Sir Alfred Hitchcock in 1940. The book/movie is all about the story of a newly wed couple who later on became

How Rejections Cause Dreams To Turn To Ashes

I have seen so many posts about rejection in LinkedIn ad I think I deserve to share my own experience in rejection. When I was 1st year in university, I wanted to be a TV Presenter, Broadcaster and dreamt to become a CNN Reporter. When I was in my 2nd year, I wanted to become a literature geek. I wanted to write poems and study … Continue reading How Rejections Cause Dreams To Turn To Ashes

Tagalog: The Nearly-Forgotten Language

He who does not love his own language is worse than an animal and smelly fish.” – Jose Rizal, Philippine’s National Hero.

Have you ever been a country where no one speaks your language? Have you even been in a country where English is not that popular? Have you ever had a conversation with someone who doesn’t completely speak your language? Were you able to understand them or you end up choosing to speak with someone who would understand what you exactly say?

I was born in the Philippines and my mother tongue is Kapampangan, it’s one of the many dialects used in our country. Our national language is Tagalog. We use Tagalog to understand all the Filipinos all over the country regardless what their dialects are. I was taught Tagalog in school because in our house, we use Kapampangan. It is essential for a Filipino to learn the language because it is what we use to communicate to each other.

But throughout the years, I have noticed that children who were naturally born Filipino are well-versed in speaking English rather than Tagalog. I have met people who was never taught Tagalog in their household just because English is more appropriate to learn because it is used as universal language and well, in my country, speaking English gives you lots of advantage. English makes a Filipino sound smart.
