Back To Basics…

Okay, not all of my avid moview readers know that I am also into reading books. Well, I have a long break from reading books…more like a 10-year-gap kind of break. I got busy with life, that’s how it is. although there are also times that I was able to read books through audiobooks, so it’s not actually a good to nothing break. I still had a chance to read some new books through listening to their audiobook versions. But this 2024, I am trying to convince myself that I really need to go back to reading because why not? Especially now that people are finally returning to the reading paperback and hard bounds.

Wonka Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Who thought we need so much of Willy Wonka that we wished for a sequel? Well, me thought so too! This Christmas, we are gifted another Willy Wonka movie, although this is a prequel story and this tackles the hard-earned beginnings of Willy Wonka. Wonka never started big. He started from nothing to having everything. Because of his mother and his dream of making the best chocolate in the world, he pursued on becoming a chocolatier, creating very unique and out of this world varieties of chocolates.

In 2005, Tim Burton directed the second Willy Wonka movie which was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Yes, you read it right, this was the second Wonka movie, starring Johnny Depp. The first movie adaptation of the famous Roald Dahl’s children’s book was in 1971 and it was entitled Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, starred by Gene Wilder and the third one is the new movie entitled Wonka starring  Timothée Chalamet.

Beautiful Disaster: Is It Really? (A Moview)

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Well, all my readers know that aside from how good I am at comparison articles, I really love reading and that means, I have watched tons of movies that were adapted actual books, I know it is not new to this site but I should let the readers know. I take comparison from comics to reel or books to reel seriously and I mean seriously, like this new movie that was released, it is actually adapted from one of the greatest books that I have read of all time.

I’m talking about Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire, It’s a series and there are other books that will justify the sequel. This 2023, movie world has decided to make it a live action movie rather than sitting in the bookshelf of those who read it since it became famous in 2011. Directed by Roger Kumble, same director for the After series, he is actually making the famous romance books true to life.

A Weekend Away (A Moview)

Remember when Leighton Meester played as a creepy roommate in 2011? Yes, I do, and that’s one of the reason I chose to have a dorm room of my own when I was in university…just coz…And this is also played by Christina Wolfe, you know her, she’s the latest Batwoman. Yes, I knowLeighton Meester is the OG.

Anyway, it’s been a long time since I saw Leighton in the limelight ever since Gossip Girl, and I think this new Netflix movie she is starring is giving us the Leighton we missed. The story is about best friends spending the time abroad for a weekend to party and catch up, that’s all we do, right? But what will you do if the weekend you expected to be just a weekend full of fun turns out to be a weekend you will regret having? And what if you wake up only to find out later on that your friend died? or worst, what will you do if you became the prime suspect in a murder case?

Yes, getting the chills yet? The story is quite interesting but not everyone knows that this story was adapted from a book of the same title that was published last 2020 and written by Sarah Alderson. I have read the book before so I get all the heads up here while watching the movie but of course, they won’t follow the book as is, although I think getting to compress the whole story in just an hour and thirty minutes is a little challenging. Do you wanna know the differences from the book VS the movie? I mean, scroll down if you do!

Like the usual, if you want to see some spoilers on both novel and the film then here’s your key…

Crazy Rich Asians Movie: How Crazy? (Moview)

“Perfection comes at a sacrifice.” ― Kevin Kwan, Crazy Rich Asians

Asians, what about them? How extravagant could a life of an Asian be?

Kevin Kwan, writer of the novel, Crazy Rich Asians, has yet wowed the whole globe with the film adaptation of his book. The film adaptation is directed by Jon M. Chu and has worked closely with Kevin Kwan. The film has broke some records for being the first Asian film to get a Hollywood premiere in 25 years (Look at that, yeah?) and this might be the best All Asian Cast movie in all the films showcased in Hollywood and in the world. (For me.)

The title says it all, Crazy, Rich and Asians, how hard can that be? Even the review is all crazy, I know, we should be living up for that title because this is the most detailed review I’ve ever made in my life. (C’mon, I’ve got lots of headlines here, people!)

So let’s start the wonderroanne moview (Movie Review), however, by reading this blog, means you are entering both book and film spoilers so, like what I always say, read at your own risk, ‘coz I’m not gonna censor any scenes or lines. I’m gonna put all the cards on the table, y’all.

The Beginning of a Big Dream… My first novel: CHAPTERS

Yes. The first ever book I actually wrote.

How Did It All Start?

After I graduated from college, I was in the middle of a postgrad situation. I don’t have any idea on where to land exactly after years of flying. I mean, all of my classmates are already working while I’m just sitting inside my apartment doing nothing.

I tried applying to different companies but no one actually had the interest on hiring a fresh graduate that time, although there were also companies who welcomed me their warm-hearts but I’m the one refusing them because of two reasons: the salary and the work itself. I’m too picky and too careful on accepting contracts that’s why I ended up with nothing.

I became a freelance assistant researcher, helped some of my friends with their thesis and later on became a Corporate Strategist. I did some projects that are way beyond my capacity. Read books about business and management and also studied the whole market. It was an obvious win-win situation for me because not only that I earn money but I’m also learning so many things while researching.

I became a management consultant and did some of the strategy works behind a big company and yes, I was able to make money out of it. I work with my projects only 2 days in a week that’s why I have so many free times to spend and to waste. Continue reading “The Beginning of a Big Dream… My first novel: CHAPTERS”
