Replacing Chef Chico: Review

There’s so many series that are new to Philippine TV standards but I am so amazed how the cinematography when it comes to Philippine films and TV dramas has gone from average to international standards. Most of the new TV series that are being released this year were actually passing the international standards and one of them is the recent Netflix release, entitled, Replacing Chef Chico.

Starring Alessandra de Rossi, Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby. This is the story of Hain, a filipino contemporary restaurant that serves Filipino traditional cuisine with the fusion of each of the customer’s life stories. The main plot is Chef Chico, played by Sam, was being replaced temporarily by his sous chef, Ella, played by Alessandra after he met an accident, causing him to stay in coma, with the supervision of Raymond, played by Piolo, the consultant that Chico’s parents’ hired to decide with the future of the restaurant as it is facing a fall back in the industry.

How well do we know mental health? How aware are we to even try to understand how a mind of a person with mental illness works? This generation had become more aware of what is the importance of mental health and how to take care of it. We now see so many posts, articles and podcasts about choosing a healthy sanity and choosing peace over toxicity, these are just some examples of us choosing to take of our mental health. However, there’s still the stigma when it comes to visiting psychiatrist and focusing on mental health. People think just because you’re seeking medical help for your sanity, it means you’re crazy, which is far beyond the truth.

I have been reading so many books about Psychology, and I had once thought of entering medical school to study the human brain because I, myself, have experienced and felt how extraordinary the human brain is. Our brain can make you cry, laugh, see things, dream things; it is very complex and there’s just so much to explore and learn.

A Time Called You Review: Time Travel Era

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I guess there’s nothing more relatable than wanting to go back in time and choosing to change something you did and expect that everything will be fine eventually, like who wouldn’t want coming back in time, trying not to choose the ex who hurt you but instead choose someone else you’ve been with before you even chose your ex, right? Or maybe right now you are thinking that maybe you could’ve just choose that shitty apartment rather than spending more money into renting an expensive one only to find out that you will just get fired a month after and be homeless, like who wouldn’t want to try that another option that maybe your life could’ve been a lot better.

One Piece Review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

For those who love anime especially the ones watching anime series in the 90s, we all know who Monkey D. Luffy is and One Piece is not just an anime because this one was released originally as a manga in 1997 and then it got released as an anime cartoon in 1999 with more than 1000 episode, One Piece is still on going. What makes it more interesting is that not only the 90s kids are loving One Piece but also the Gen Zs. Created by Eiichiro Oda, this is one of the longest running anime which actually consists of 1000 plus episodes (Aside from Pokemon, Naruto, Yu Gi Oh!, Doraemon, Shin Chan and Detective Conan).

This year, a year where most of the Anime’s are getting their live action adaptation, they now finally released the much awaited One Piece Live Action. Produced by Netflix, The One Piece is actually following the start of the original manga series and the cartoon series, which means, it is just an adaptation, it is a close look to its real story. Despite the numerous comments from people not liking a live action of books, comics and other written artworks, the One Piece is actually somehow the closes to its real deal.

Delete: Thai Series Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

It’s been a while since I last watched a Thai series and I have been in awe lately because of the reality that Thai series/movie plots are actually very unique and I think this is what makes them really watchable and very relatable most of the time. Netflix released an eight-episode-long series about a mysterious mobile phone that deletes the people whose photos have been taken using its camera.

Celebrity: K-Drama Review

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Okay, so we’ve been busy with work but a good Drama can actually be watched in a full day over the weekend, which I actually did last week and I would say this is not the first time I really did finish a series within the day, this is why I am a movie reviewer up to this date, yes? Couldn’t complain at all, especially when I watch the easiest in the eyes shows which don’t actually give me any regret or whatsoever.

This 2023, Netflix gave us so many series to watch and all I noticed is the Netflix is actually investing on Korean Dramas, which definitely is a good investment because their plots are beyond extraordinary. I mean, it’s not like the usual, cheating, twin got separated, rich-poor lovers kind of plots, but they are actually the fresh ones, even the ones with zombies, they’re definitely stories that you can find no similarities everywhere and that my viewers, is the definition of something new.

Glamorous: To Renew or Not to Renew?

Rating: 3 out of 5.

A new Netflix series about a queer man who was picked to work for a prestigious make up company was launched last month and all the things about it is just so familiar some-else-where. This is not the first that shows had actually reinvented that plot where the main character enters a dream job and the plot revolves around it. Devil wears Prada did that and that is one iconic movie up to this date however, more and more movies and TV Series had essentially follow the plot design of DWP all throughout the years but never did I see any of them succeed, one of them is The Bold Type, where is it now? Never have gone any renewals because the series actually flopped by the second season, it was lucky enough to renew even, I’d say.

Selling Sunset: Is Chrishell Out?

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Well, The new season of Selling Sunset is out and I can’t believe I have been reviewing it every time they release new seasons. I do think that the reality show is somehow overly dramatic, considering that for sure it has been a little bit scripted but who doesn’t like drama? But this time is very different because I think it’s too overrated already at this point.

The previous season ended up having Chrishell and Jason breaking up and then now they are starting the season by both of them having new younger partners, Chrishell has Flip G, and Jason has Marie Lou. This means the two are actually having their own lives without any dramas, just being in love with another partners.

The Oppeinheim Group recruited new realtor, Bre, who happens to be the baby mama of one of Nick Cannon’s babies (We all know he has lots of babies, so yeah, that Nick.) and this event has shaken the OG girls a bit, especially Chelsea (Christine’s new bff, in the last season), now that Christine is out of the picture, She’s on her own, although she made quite of friends like Heather, but looks like this season, Chelsea is being the villain over Bre’s life choices and ‘baby daddy’ choices. First episode, and bam! Chelsea is the new Christine. Not that I don’t like her, but clearly the production made her fill up Christine’s shoes by being her and I mean ‘her’, because we all know how Christine makes an entrance with her extra outfits and yes, Chelsea is doing that now, and a little extra.

XO, Kitty: A Spin Off We Never Expected

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Lara Jean’s story may be interesting but what about the people around her? We all know that To All The Boy I Loved Before is a hit coz all trilogy were exciting. Well, this 2023, enough with Lara Jean but let’s talk about her youngest sister, Kitty, the Matchmaker. We all know her the pushy sister who sent all the letters to the post, hence, she is the reason why the movie even happened, technically speaking.

Since there’s no more story to tell about Lara Jean coz we all know about her escapades and all the things she needed to face and leave, and she is happy everywhere else, that leaves Kitty alone with her dad and Trina. Which means all the things she needs to do may involve on taking the opportunity of looking about her Asian-Korean culture with the help of her mom’s memories. She discovered that her mom went to KISS (Korean Independent School of Seoul) having a scholarship which she later on tried to apply to and luckily she got in; it’s the same school where her penpal/boyfriend, Dae is studying.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

It may have been a long wait for the follow up season for the Bridgerton series but this month, Shondaland Media has yet again surprise us with another interesting back story. After the whole Lady Whistledown catch ups, this time, we are seeing a what it seems to be a prequel or maybe an origin story of the majesty, Queen Charlotte.

For those who don’t know, Bridgerton Series is about Bridgerton clan living in the Regent era of England. The first season is about Daphne Bridgerton and Duke of Hastings while the second season was about Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma. I have written reviews about it too.

This new entry by Shonda is a bit different from the books as this is somehow a back story for a certain character in the series and well, the most interesting one, I must say. She is none other than Queen Charlotte. We all know who she is in Bridgerton, but do we really know what her story is or is there so much that we don’t know that even Lady Whistledown won’t be able to discover for herself and only the queen can actually tell the real story.
