Vincenzo: Is It Really Worth The Hype?

This February 2021, Netflix released a new KDrama (Korean Drama) starring Song Joong-Ki, the actor who is well known for his role in Descendants of the Sun as Captain Yoo Shi-Jin, who popularized the Song-Song Couple together with Song Hye-Kyo who is now his ex-wife. Back to the topic, Vincenzo is a Mafia inspired drama which has been flooding my newsfeed lately. So the lazy ass reviewer in me got a little excited and curious… what is it really about? Is it another Vagabond like series or it’s just one of those dramas that gets the hype because of the actors playing the roles? Well, it’s for me to help you decide coz I’m going to help you understand the bits and pieces of the series.

Disclaimer: If you want some spoiler, go ahead and read but if not, watch it first then come back here after…we will wait for you!

TV Series You Need To Binge-watch this 2021

Hey guys! I know I haven’t been writing too much lately but I tried my best to keep up. I haven’t been so updated with movies because of the closing of cinemas so I’m rather stuck with subscribing TV Streaming apps such as Starzplay, OSN, Disney+, AppleTV, VIU and Netflix, well, I’m sure there’s other more.

There are so many latest TV Series and Movies which were actually available and if you need some fix on watching old TV Series, there are avaialbale ones too so here’s my list for 2021.

Let’s call this a part 1 of many.

  1. Bridgerton (Netflix) – Based on a novel series The Duke and I for Julia Quinn. It’s more like an English version of Gossip Girl. Well, I’d give this rating a 5 star because I love the books and I trust a series if it’s produced by The Shonda Rhimes. So if you enjoyed Gossip Girl, might as well, meet Lady Whistledown.

2. Mandalorian (Disney+) – It is the first live-action series in the Star Wars franchise, beginning five years after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983). So if you love Star Wars, this one’s for you! Plus, I love seeing baby Yoda!

3. Bling Empire (Netflix) – If you never got the hang from Crazy Rich Asians, then this new reality show about real-life rich Asians who are constantly enjoying their lavish life more than any rich people can imagine. I’m talking about signature brands and high-fashion jewelry plus the drama in this documentary is very much a representation of the rich Asian Community in Los Angeles.

Queen’s Gambit and My Unexplainable Nostalgia (Spoilers Ahead!)

Another Netflix series is topping up the charts since its release. If you haven’t heard about it, it’s the Queen’s Gambit. This is another series which was adapted from a famous novel by Walter Tevis under the same title which was published on 1983. Now, this is not your ordinary TV Series review; I have so much to say about this series and I’m so excited to share it to all of my readers. The series is very close to my heart because I, myself, was feeling that the main character and I shared a lot in common. By ‘common‘ I mean is the love for the game CHESS.

So the 7-episode-long miniseries, is about an orphan who became a prodigy at the early age of eight in the world of chess which was in her time was a game dominated by men. The genius girl, Elizabeth Harmon, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, who is also known for her role in the movie The Witch. Beth, was brought to the orphanage after her mother dies in a car accident. During her stay in the orphanage, she became friends with a foul-mouthed, Jolene, who is played by Moses Ingram. She also met Mr. Shaibel, played by Bill Camp, a janitor who plays chess alone in the basement of the orphanage. He is the one who taught Elizabeth how to play the game and also was the one who discovered that Beth might be a genius when it comes to chess.

Mr. Shaibel and eight-year-old Beth Harmon

Beth is a silent, poker-faced little who only wants to be alone. With the help of sedatives, she was able to play the game in her head before she sleeps at night. With the help of Mr. Shaibel, she got more eager to learn which she figured out at the shortest time possible. in the later years, she was adopted by a childless couple, Alma and Allston Wheatley. With the guidance of Mrs. Wheatley, she was able to attend tournaments
