The Matrix 4, Is This The Closure We All Need?

Matrix – the one and only film that I think had me believing that sci-fi/action movies are a real deal. I haven’t watched Matrix 1 until I was in grade school because of my mom; back when home theaters are still in and we just get to rent movie CDs, a month after the movie was released. I know, I was like in my early grade school when I practically learn to love different genres of movies or should I say, I learn to love movies generally. I wished I just reviewed movies early in my college years just as to show everyone how I actually love watching and try my best to give feedbacks about the scenes I really loved and the scenes I hated. I had so much opinion back then, well anyways, this is not about the past, let’s go back to the main topic, which is The Matrix.

The movie was first released in 1999 and both the 2nd and 3rd sequel were released in 2003. I had the chance to really understand the movie when I was in high school coz that’s the only time I was old enough to understand the whole concept without asking an adult about this-and-that kind of stuff while watching the movie. so the deal is after 20 years, how was the plot had gone? Knowing that they need to come up with a great plot that can make the viewers think that they actually just watched the last sequel as if it was yesterday.

Last December 2021, they managed to fill the void that all the Matrix fans had. One of the question that left us all hanging was Are Neo and Trinity really dead? Yes, coz they actually died on the third sequel which was meant to be the end of the film but is it? or they waited for 20 years to surprise all?

I know everyone might say I’m gonna give a cliché review but I think this is just my opinion and this probably is the most straightforward that I’m gonna make because I have nothing more to say aside from “YAAAAAAA” It’s a shock for me to learn that Matrix has a sequel after 20 years but you know what, every fan deserves a closure and the Matrix 4 is the closure that I’m telling you about.

In this film, Neo was resurrected only to find out that he has been living in a fake world created by the virtual reality he thinks is real and Trinity as well, was resurrected right after him, however, it was hard for them to resurrect Trinity because she has been living the life that the VR had chosen for her. (Well, I hope I’m saying this right, coz it’s 3am and I’m sleepy. lol)

So basically the virtual community is trying search for Neo and Trinity who has been dead for so many years, thinking that they can give hope to the people and well, just say do some unfinished business.

The Verdict

I know, it is pretty awkward to review a movie that we actually need to relate from a 20-year-old movie but I guess this sums up all the questions that Matrix fans had before. There was evidently lack of twist in the plot, I mean, of course, what will be the additional plot you could give us unless you’re resurrecting the dead, right? I mean we need the closure that we were seeking for before so now, the movie is just the answer to it.

This maybe is the briefest verdict I gave from all the movie reviews that I’ve written, like I cannot say anything else aside from the movie was good if it was shown from just few years from the last movie sequel. the 20-year gap may have been a believable plot twist but I would’ve wanted this closure many years ago rather than now that I almost lost my memories of all the Matrix franchise. I tried not to look at some brief synopsis of the old movies as to not ruin my 20-year gap review and yes, I didn’t rewatch any of them so expect that I have forgotten some of the scenes.

My point is, the closure was okay, but not after 20 years. yeah? All in all, I liked the movie; the effects, the plot are still on point but the choice of time to release the movie was a wrong timing because at the moment that I’ve watched it in the cinemas which was the first day of release, people were eager to watch Spiderman: No Way Home rather than watch Keanu Reeves again coz Spiderman was one of the best movies to do a very nostalgic scenes coz it’s very seldom that revisiting scenes is a hit with all the viewers.

You know what was unexpected? All along we thought Neo would be able to fly, but little did we know….

I’d still give this a 88% wonderroanne rating because they were able to manage the whole resurrection thing. I mean, somehow they were able to reconnect all the movies in one which was really a hope for all the Matrix fans.

  1. I too thought the film was good. I enjoyed the action and seeing Keanu and Carrie back in their original roles. Some of the humour was cheesy but I enjoyed the fun meta moments. But, like you said, the closure was needed 20 years ago and now it seems a bit late. Was this film fun? Yes. Did it need to be made? I don’t think so.

    1. Yes Jessica, same feeling! I would’ve appreciated the closure if it was released years ago. Thanks for appreciating the article!
